The Dead of Winter Horror Festival is an annual event held in downtown Worcester during the last weekend in February. Dead of Winter combines the excitement of a convention with the passion of a film festival, creating a unique event that celebrates the talent and heart of the New England Independent Horror scene.

Heading into our 3rd year, Dead of Winter vows to be bigger, better, and bloodier than ever. Offering vendors, artists, cosplayers, panels, and more - the soul of Dead of Winter continues to be the Film Festival located on the main stage, also known as the screen of screams. Filmmakers will receive one (1) badge for free entry into the weekend's events and have the opportunity to address the audience during a Q&A.

Awards & Prizes

This year, Dead of Winter is introducing awards! Audience members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film in each block. Votes will be tallied and winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on Sunday, February 22nd.

Rules & Terms

ONLY OPEN TO FILMS IN THE HORROR GENRE

1. Films must have been completed on or after January 1st, 2023, and submitted through FilmFreeway

2. We do NOT offer waivers

3. If selected, please make your film downloadable to us via FilmFreeway

4. Films must be in English or subtitled in English

5. We will not accept films that heavily rely on the use of A.I.

6. Films must not be in distribution or available to screen online/streaming at time of festival

7. Films must contain original content only, the use of copywritten intellectual properties will result in disqualification (i.e. no fan films)

8. Films must not exceed 20 minutes in length

9. Premieres not necessary, but highly encouraged

10. If selected, filmmakers will be given one (1) free entry into the event

11. We are not responsible for travel or accommodations
