Dawn Wells is a documentary filmmaker, ghost hunter, director, narrator, and writer of the Creepy Cape Breton series. She has directed and written a few documentary films for CBC Gem & Land and Sea. She also worked in radio for many years.
Education:
Dawn graduated with honors from the Business Administration Program in 2021. She also received her Television and Radio broadcast diploma in 2007. And completed the Applied Arts and Media Training program in 2006.
Work/Projects:
In the past, she interned at CBC Radio One and CBC Television. Then later CTV Atlantic News. Afterward, she managed a rock radio station for over ten years.
She also created her own Production Company, Cape Haunts Till Dawn Production Incorporated. Dawn created her horror documentary Web series, Haunted Cape Breton. In 2022 she went on to direct songs of Unama’ki, which she co-wrote with Donna Davies, a documentary on Cape Breton’s Mi’kmaq traditional music for CBC Gem, and Rooted which she co-directed alongside Jeff Miller, which aired on CBC Gem in March. Both films were produced by Ruby Tree Production Films. Also in 2023 she wrote and directed two episodes of Land and Sea, Finding Our Talk, and Moose Camp.
Awards:
"Songs of Unamak'i", 2023 won the best documentary short at the International Atlantic Film Festival. Her short film "The Short Cut", received a few awards in 2021.
She has also won a few awards for her web series "Haunted Cape Breton."
Television Series:
In October 2023 she released a horror documentary series for Bell Fibe TV 1, called Creepy Cape Breton, and is now working on season two.
