Dawn Wells was born and raised in Cape Breton Nova Scotia. She is from the Mi’kmaq First Nation community of Membertou. She started off as a radio host, producer, programmer, and eventually manager for a community radio rock station.
After completing her Radio and Television Arts Program at Atlantic Media Institute she graduated with honors from the Business Administration Program.
In the past Dawn interned at CBC Radio One and CBC Television. Then later CTV Atlantic News.
After creating her own Production Company, Cape Haunts Till Dawn Production Incorporated. Dawn created her horror documentary Web series, Haunted Cape Breton. In 2022 she went on to direct songs of Unama’ki, which she co-wrote with Donna Davies, a documentary on Cape Breton’s Mi’kmaq traditional music for CBC Gem, and Rooted which she co-directed alongside Jeff Miller, which aired on CBC Gem in March. Both films were produced by Ruby Tree Production Films.
Last year Dawn also wrote and directed two episodes of Land and Sea, Finding Our Talk and Moose Camp.
This fall she will be releasing a horror documentary series for Bell Fibe TV 1, called Creepy Cape Breton.
