The Dana Point Film Festival (DPFF) is an ocean-focused film festival centered on marine life and our relationship with this extraordinary natural world. At the heart of DPFF is a vibrant global community—bringing together ocean filmmakers, audiences, scientists, and storytellers from around the world for a shared four-day experience.
The festival features three days of internationally recognized programming anchored by the Golf Star Film Festival, showcasing exceptional films that highlight ocean conservation, education, preservation, and adventure. DPFF’s mission is to celebrate primarily documentary filmmaking by ocean filmmakers while fostering awareness and appreciation for the oceans through compelling visual storytelling.
Beyond film, DPFF offers a dynamic, multi-day cultural experience including community-driven outdoor movie nights, live musical performances, cultural events, and educational programming. Attendees will engage with a distinguished speaker series featuring globally recognized oceanographic experts, alongside opportunities to learn from and connect with accomplished ocean filmmakers.
DPFF is a place where ocean filmmakers share their work, emerging creators gain insight from seasoned professionals, and audiences experience the beauty and urgency of ocean storytelling. The festival culminates in an awards presentation honoring outstanding contributions, featuring globally recognized talent.
Submissions will be accepted from ocean filmmakers worldwide through danapointfilmfestival.org, reinforcing DPFF’s commitment to showcasing diverse global perspectives and building an inclusive creative community.
DPFF is a Program of the nonprofit Blue Sea 2 Sky, a 501(c)(3)

Awards recognition will be given for Official Selections and For winners of each category. Prizes might be applicable pending sponsorship, however, they are not promised at this time.

DPFF does not pay screening fees or shipping fees in order to screen a film, nor does DPFF underwrite production costs (duplication, subtitling, etc.).

It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the contact information provided on the submission form is correct throughout the entirety of the selection period.

DPFF is under no obligation to provide to the Applicant or any other representative of the Film any comments or feedback regarding the submitted Film should it not be accepted for exhibition at the Festival.

Every submitted film is evaluated on its merits and how it meets the criteria for our festival. The fact that it is or has been available on Youtube or Vimeo or has had limited distribution at selected theaters, or has been shown on TV is considered in our evaluation but is not a reason for rejecting the film. We prefer films made within the past year or two, but an older film that deals with an unusual subject or has historical importance, or has not been shown theatrically for several decades might also be considered for the festival. Each film is unique and will be evaluated as such.

You can't ask for more! A well curated festival in a beach setting with a range of films from pure fun to serious ocean preservation documentaries. The event was organized with easy parking and venues near great restaurants and hotels. Organizers, staff and volunteers really care about the festival and ocean, and it shows!
