What is Do Ut Des Film Festival? Who is it for? Why this name?

First of all, Do Ut Des Film Festival is a fantastic container of short cinema; we are open to short films from all over the world (as long as they are produced starting from January 2019), whose finalists - selected by us in collaboration with Sentiero Film Factory - this year will become part of two "special categories" within the SFF 2022 (here for submit: https://filmfreeway.com/SentieroFilmFactory):

- MUSIC IN SHORT (video clips, experimental videos in which the images interact directly with the music are allowed)

- REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY (includes films dedicated to the cultural exchange between Italy and the Rest of the World; this year the focus will be on Baltic Countries: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania)

Do Ut Des Film Festival is not just a nice word pun, but it wants to overturn the negative stereotype linked to the Latin phrase "do ut des": an expression often used to indicate the ancient - how not very edifying - practice of "exchange’s vote" within politics and institutions in general ... Is it a provocation? Maybe yes, but the only thing we are interested in trading here are your visionary talent and our ability to highlight and reward it as it deserves and then - why not – mixing different cultures and styles, because cinema is beautiful also because it is varied. Furthermore, since we are in Tuscany, we could not fail to pay homage to one of the characters who made the history of music for being the inventor of the tetragrammaton (at the root of the current stave), namely Guido d'Arezzo; who was the first in the year 1025 to line up all the notes of the musical scale starting from the UT latin sound (what we now know as C).

In short, Do Ut Des Film Festival is all this and more! We hope you will want to discover it with us by attending us in this new exciting adventure, exchanging good cinema and showing your many and fascinating visions of the world. We are waiting for you!

Cos’è Do Ut Des Film Festival? A chi si rivolge? Perché questo nome?

Andiamo con ordine…

Innanzitutto, Do Ut Des Film Festival è un fantastico contenitore di cinema breve; siamo aperti a cortometraggi di qualunque nazionalità (purché prodotti a partire da gennaio 2019), i cui finalisti - da noi selezionati in collaborazione con Sentiero Film Factory - quest'anno entreranno a far parte di due “sezioni speciali” all'interno del SFF 2022 (qui per iscriversi: https://filmfreeway.com/SentieroFilmFactory):

- MUSIC IN SHORT (sono ammessi videoclip e video sperimentali in cui le immagini interagiscono direttamente con la musica)

- REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY (include film dedicati allo scambio culturale tra Italia e resto del mondo; quest’anno il focus sarà dedicato ai Paesi Baltici: Estonia, Lettonia, Lituania)

Do Ut Des Film Festival non è soltanto un simpatico gioco di parole, ma vuole, prima di tutto, ribaltare lo stereotipo negativo legato alla locuzione latina "do ut des"; un’espressione spesso utilizzata per indicare l’antica - quanto poco edificante - pratica del “voto di scambio” all’interno della politica e nelle istituzioni in generale… Una provocazione? Forse sì, ma l’unica cosa che qui ci interessa barattare sono il vostro talento visionario e la nostra capacità di metterlo in risalto e premiarlo come merita e poi, perché no, mixare culture e stili diversi poiché il cinema è bello anche perché è vario. Inoltre, poiché ci troviamo in Toscana, non potevamo non rendere omaggio a uno dei personaggi passati alla storia della musica per essere stato l’inventore del tetragramma (alla radice dell’attuale pentagramma), ovvero Guido d’Arezzo; il quale, fu il primo nell’anno 1025 a mettere in fila tutte le note della scala musicale a partire dal suono UT (quello che oggi conosciamo come DO).

BALTIC FILM COMPETITION aka REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC’S WAY
● Best Baltic Short Movie (free participation to the next SENTIERO FILM REC, artistic residency in Florence )

Italian:

MIGLIOR VIDEO MUSICALE aka MUSIC IN SHORT
● “DUDFF Award” per il Miglior Video Musicale Sperimentale (trofeo e contributo artistico di 300€).
● Miglior Video Musicale (trofeo) in collaborazione con "SeeYouSound Festival".

MIGLIOR FILM DELL'AREA BALTICA alias REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY
● Miglior Cortometraggio Baltico (partecipazione gratuita al prossimo SENTIERO FILM REC, residenza artistica a Firenze)

Rules & Terms

English:

- Short films produced starting from January 2019 that do not exceed thirty minutes can participate.

- Adult authors of any nationality can participate in the Competition.

- The Competition has two categories in total:

• MUSIC IN SHORT: videoclip; experimental videos in which images interact directly with music.
• REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY: films dedicated to the cultural exchange between Italy and the Rest of the World; this year the Competition is reserved exclusively for movies produced in the Baltic Area or directed by Baltic Filmmakers from Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania.

- NON-Italian short films participating in the selection must be subtitled in Italian and/or - if this is not possible - in English.

- Up to three works for each author are admitted to the selection.

- Submission to the Competition requires a different fee for each entry deadlines of each entered work.

- The works received in the first phase will be selected to enter the final phase of the Competition at the sole discretion of the Festival Artistic Direction Committee.

- The notification for the request of the selected material for the screenings of the final phase of the Festival will be made in due time before the Awards Ceremony by e-mail.

- As regards the second phase, the winners will be established by a jury of professionals from the Entertainment and Culture industry and announced during the Awards Ceremony of the Festival. The jury's decision is final.

- Participants authorize the use of part of their works, up to 50 seconds or 10% of the overall duration of the film, for the purpose of advertising and promotional dissemination of the Festival by “900 Film” and "Sentiero Film Factory".

- The organization assumes that the participants have the full right to exhibit and promote the works and material presented and declines any responsibility for the violation of these rules.

- If your film will be SELECTED, the organization will request as follows; all must reach the Festival no later than May 1, 2022:

● FilmFreeway entry form properly filled (under penalty of exclusion from the competition).
● Fill the credits related to Director, Producer, Screenwriter, DOP, Costume Designer, Set Designer, Editor, Composer and Sound Designer on FilmFreeway.
● Screener link - VIMEO is recommended - available on FilmFreeway.

Late Deadline - April 10, 2022

Awards Ceremony - May 25, 2022 in Florence. In the event of an extension of the restrictions due to the spread of the COVID 19 virus, the ceremony will be broadcast online in live streaming.

Participants authorize "900 Film" and "Sentiero Film Factory" (SFF) to use their name and address for all purposes related to the event, according to the law in force (n. 2016/679 - GDPR). The short films and other materials sent will NOT be returned, they will remain in possession of "900 Film" and SFF as part of the Festival archive.

Registration for the Competition and participation in the Festival imply full acceptance of these Regulations and for any exception not covered by these Regulations “900 Film” and SFF reserve the right to make definitive decisions.

Italian:

- Possono partecipare i cortometraggi prodotti a partire da gennaio 2019 che non superino la durata di trenta minuti.

- Possono partecipare al concorso autori maggiorenni di qualsiasi nazionalità.

- Il Concorso prevede due sezioni in totale:

• MUSIC IN SHORT: videoclip; video sperimentali in cui le immagini interagiscono direttamente con la musica.
• REMIX CULTURE_BALTIC'S WAY: film dedicati allo scambio culturale tra Italia e resto del mondo; quest’anno il Concorso è riservato esclusivamente a film prodotti nell'area baltica e/o diretti da autori provenienti dai Paesi Baltici: Estonia, Lettonia, Lituania.

- I cortometraggi di nazionalità NON italiana che partecipano alla selezione devono essere sottotitolati in italiano e/o, qualora non fosse possibile, in lingua inglese.

- Sono ammesse alla selezione fino a tre opere per autore.

- L’iscrizione al Concorso prevede una quota diversa per ognuna delle entry deadlines proposte per ciascuna opera iscritta.

- Le opere pervenute nella prima fase saranno selezionate per accedere alla fase finale del concorso ad insindacabile giudizio del Comitato di Direzione Artistica del Festival.

- La notifica per la richiesta del materiale selezionato per le proiezioni della fase finale del Festival verrà effettuata a tempo debito prima della Cerimonia di Premiazione tramite e-mail.

- Per quanto concerne la seconda fase i vincitori saranno stabiliti da una giuria di professionisti dell'industria dello Spettacolo e della Cultura e annunciati durante la serata di premiazione del Festival. La decisione della giuria è inoppugnabile.

- I partecipanti autorizzano l'utilizzo di parte delle proprie opere fino a 50 secondi o al 10% della durata complessiva del film, ai fini della divulgazione pubblicitaria e promozionale del Festival da parte di “900 Film” e "Sentiero Film Factory".

- L'organizzazione presuppone che i partecipanti abbiano il pieno diritto di esporre e promuovere le opere e il materiale presentato e declina ogni responsabilità per la violazione di queste regole.

- Se il tuo film verrà SELEZIONATO, l’organizzazione richiederà quanto segue; il tutto dovrà essere ricevuto dal festival non più tardi del primo maggio 2022:

● Scheda di iscrizione a FilmFreeway debitamente compilata (pena l'esclusione dal concorso).
● Crediti relativi a regista, produttore, sceneggiatore, direttore della fotografia, costumista, scenografo, montatore, compositore e sound designer debitamente compilati su FilmFreeway.

Ultima Deadline - 10 Aprile 2022

Cerimonia di Premiazione - 25 Maggio 2022 presso Firenze. In caso di prolungamento delle restrizioni dovute alla diffusione del virus COVID 19 la cerimonia sarà trasmetta online in diretta streaming.

I partecipanti autorizzano “900 Film” e "Sentiero Film Factory" (SFF) ad utilizzare il loro nome ed indirizzo per tutti gli scopi relativi all'evento, secondo la legge vigente (n. 2016/679 - GDPR). I cortometraggi ed altri materiali inviati NON saranno restituiti, resteranno in possesso di “900 Film” e SFF come parte dell'archivio del Festival.

L'iscrizione al Concorso e la partecipazione al Festival implicano l'accettazione completa del presente Regolamento e per ogni eccezione non rientrante nel presente Regolamento “900 Film” e SFF si riservano il diritto di assumere decisioni definitive.
