We are excited to announce the return of the DEEPWAVE Filmfestival for the Protection of the Ocean! This all-evening event is for students, scientists, stakeholders of marine conservation, and the general public who are interested in getting an in-depth look into the ocean and its issues.
The festival focuses on creating a highly curated and connected experience, showcasing quality short films, inviting experts, and providing engaging experiences. An example of this is the endless darkness and extremely low temperatures of the film "ABOVE AND BELOW THE ICE". No one has ever spent the night in the Arctic is the premise of the MOSAiC expedition, one of the largest research expeditions of all time. Philipp Grieß brings unforgettable shots from above and below the ice in his film Directed by Philipp Griess.
In the last edition, "TERRA CENE", directed by Nono Ayuso and Rodrigo Inada, asks the question: What will be remembered in the future? With its noir aesthetic, the film weaves past, present, and future into a message to the universe.
A great impact was felt after showing "MY 25: THE OCEAN BETWEEN US", directed by Inka Creswell, which showcases that even if the untouched nature that their father enjoyed can no longer be brought back, the younger generation can write their own history: one of departure and restoration.
And a touching story about the beauty of the underwater world, as well as our past and above all our future with it were exhibited in the film "THE CORAL GUARDIAN", directed by David I. Dinçe. The surreal shots, which were produced entirely without animation, are a masterpiece of film art.
The catering for the evening was provided by a local zero-waste store, ensuring that guests were nourished in a sustainable manner.
Now, on to the next!
We are now preparing for the third edition of the festival and would love to have your submissions. We are looking for short-length movies and videos of all genres related to the ocean and its protection, including topics such as Climate Change and Noise Mitigation. If your movie stars interesting personas who live in a region accessible by train to Hamburg, we would love to invite them.
The festival will take place at the Lichtmess cinema on the 26th of May and there is no entrance fee or cost for catering.
Help us create another memorable evening by submitting your movie, sharing it with your peers, or suggesting filmmakers we should contact.
