DANCE ON SCREEN is Switzerland's leading platform dedicated to the genre of dance film. Founded in 2019, it has grown into a central hub for dance movies—presenting short films, documentaries, feature films, and AR/VR - works that explore dance in all its cultural, social, and personal dimensions across multiple events throughout Switzerland.

Through the powerful fusion of movement, space, sound, and cinematography, dance film tells stories that words cannot. DANCE ON SCREEN celebrates this fusion by presenting films that span the entire spectrum of expression—from the abstract to the deeply emotional, from memory to fantasy, and from traditional formats to cutting-edge immersive experiences. We build a bridge between visionary filmmakers and audiences, connecting innovation with appreciation.

More than just screenings, DANCE ON SCREEN provides a space for connection and dialogue. Our programming includes Q&As, interviews, and masterclasses with prominent figures from the dance film world. We strive for ethical and fair practice; therefore, we offer screening fees for works presented in our events.

If you're a filmmaker pushing the boundaries of dance on screen and are passionate about innovative storytelling, we invite you to become part of this vibrant, ever-evolving platform. Let's expand the global language of dance film—together.

About the selection process (please read carefully):
Notifications about the film selection for 2026 will be sent by end of January 2026 or earlier.
General scheduling and timetable of screenings is entirely at the discretion of the platform DANCE ON SCREEN (DOS).
DOS is granted the right to screen the submitted films during each announced DOS - event periods at Arthouse Kinos in Zurich or any other partner - location of the platform in Switzerland, against payment of a screening fee. The amount of the fee may vary from year to year and is determined by DOS.
For special occasions—such as including a film in a curated program, presenting it to potential partners, or hosting exclusive screenings—DOS may contact the filmmaker to request one or two screenings without an additional screening fee. These opportunities are intended to enhance the visibility of the artist, their work, and DOS’s film programs. Filmmakers will always be notified in advance and retain the choice to participate.
A selected film cannot be withdrawn from the program after accepting the selection invitation.
In case your film is selected for screening you will be asked to send a master copy in two formats: DCP-copy and mp4-copy at least 1.5 month prior of the screening event or deadlines given by DOS in the selection notification. Late arrivals can be excluded from the program.
If DOS receives damaged DCP or MP4 files, the film may be excluded from the program. The filmmaker or producer will be informed and may choose to resend repaired files or have DOS handle the repair. In the latter case, costs may be deducted from the screening fee. DOS will notify before any repair work begins.
In the case that a film contains language other than English or in some agreed cases German, French or Italian, it is required that the master file includes English subtitles burned on the copy.

DOS is granted the right to use the submitted films, film stills, posters and trailers for promotional purposes on the internet, television and other media. An excerpt of 10% of the film (or max. 2 min) of each submitted film may be used for that purpose. For private committee and press viewings, DOS sustains the option to screen your full film as a preview to programmers, raters, press or committee members only.
DOS needs film stills and trailers / or mp4-version of the film (very short films) right after the selection notification for promotional purposes and the preparation of the screenings. Please upload those files with the submission on FilmFreeway as indicated!
The film information provided by the participant in the entry form will be used for publications. Catalogue writings are entirely at the discretion of the platform DOS. DOS accepts no liability in the event that its publications reproduce inaccuracies in submitted materials.
The film submitter’s personal contact details will be kept in the DANCE ON SCREEN database. This information is only used to request additional screenings and will never be made public nor given to third parties without consent of the submitter.
By submitting your film, you claim to have full ownership of the film and / or have cleared all the rights. DOS shall under no circumstances be liable for any claims by third parties.
DOS is responsible for the digital master copies the moment they have arrived at the platform’s servers / archive.
In case of faulty projection, DOS and its partners cannot be held liable for immaterial damages suffered by the director, choreographer, producer or distributor.
Platform / day passes or screening invitations for filmmakers are at the discretion of the festival. DOS will inform you in time about the ticketing policy for filmmakers.
