The Mario Puzo Film Festival/Corto e capo for ten years continues its journey to bring cinema where cinema is not usually at home, in the suburbs, in internal areas, in those areas where it is often difficult to see moving images beyond the screens of one's mobile phones or a televisions. We pursue the paradox of making the cinema central thanks to the attention of the peripheral areas and of making the periphery central thanks to the strength of the images and the cinematic story. From farmyards to squares, from cellars to terraces, from old farmhouses to outdoor arenas, every place for us becomes a good place to host movies, to tell stories, to show faces, places and distant realities and make them close to those who watch.
TREND REVERSE. Strategies to oppose a chronic decline.
The theme of this edition will tell us how in those areas that the institutions themselves see as destined for an inexorable decline, we are not just looking for dignified aging but there are glimpses and paths of hope, ambitious and cutting-edge life and social projects. We will focus our cameras on that flower in the desert, on that baby's bow that shines on a door in a depopulated town, on those ideas and projects that make even life in the suburbs unique, modern and desirable.
As always, we will use the cinema that since time immemorial has told of revenge and rebirth, of unexpected and unpredictable endings, that cinema that, far from the big centres, has always found a great source of inspiration and life. From Bertolucci's '900 (which turns 50 this year) to Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, passing through Il Gattopardo, Riso Amaro and Il Postino, the great Italian cinema has always told the story of the province, its peculiarities and its ability to experience the changes of history as a protagonist and often also as a driving force. In these years of change, regeneration and loss of identity, the internal areas still retain the strength, peculiarities and desire to oppose a sad and marked destiny and to once again indicate the right course.

Il Mario Puzo Film Festival/Corto e a capo da dieci anni continua a portare il cinema dove il cinema solitamente non è di casa, nelle periferie, nelle aree interne, in quelle zone dove spesso è difficile vedere immagini in movimento oltre gli schermi dei propri telefonini o dei propri televisori. Inseguiamo il paradosso di rendere il cinema centrale grazie all’attenzione delle zone periferiche e di rendere la periferia centrale grazie alla forza delle immagini e del racconto cinematografico. Dalle aie alle piazze, dalle cantine alle terrazze, dai vecchi casali alle arene all’aperto, ogni luogo per noi diventa un posto buono per ospitare cinema, per raccontare storie, per mostrare volti, luoghi e realtà lontane e renderle vicine a chi guarda.
INVERSIONE DI TENDENZA. Strategie per opporsi ad un cronicizzato declino. Il tema di questa edizione ci racconterà come in quelle aree che le stesse istituzioni vedono come destinate ad un inesorabile declino, non si cerca solo un dignitoso invecchiamento ma esistono sguardi e percorsi di speranza, progetti di vita e sociali ambiziosi e all’avanguardia. Punteremo le nostre telecamere su quel fiore nel deserto, su quel fiocco da neonato che splende su un portone di in un paese spopolato, su quelle idee e quei progetti che rendono unica, moderna e desiderabile anche la vita in periferia.
Ci serviremo come sempre del cinema che da tempo immemore racconta di rivincite e rinascite, di finali imprevisti e imprevedibili, quel cinema che lontano dai grossi centri ha sempre trovato grande fonte di ispirazione e di vita. Da ‘900 di Bertolucci (che quest’anno compie 50 anni) a Nuovo cinema paradiso, passando per il Gattopardo, Riso Amaro e Il Postino, il grande cinema italiano ha sempre raccontato la provincia, le sue peculiarità e la sua capacità di vivere i cambiamenti della storia da protagonista e spesso anche da motore propulsivo. In questi anni di cambiamento, di rigenerazione e di perdita di identità, le aree interne custodiscono ancora la forza, le peculiarità e la voglia per opporsi ad un destino triste e segnato e per indicare ancora una volta la giusta rotta.
FILM COMPETITION:
The competing short and feature films will be divided into different sections, both short and feature films, and will compete for different prizes as follows::
Short film contest: works of any kind (animation, fiction, documentary, videoclip) lasting up to 15 minutes, in Italian or subtitled in Italian, made from 2025 onwards and that we have not participated in previous editions of Corto e Capo/Mario Puzo Prize contend the following awards:
• Best Short Daena / Short Prize Corto e a capo: trophy + 500 Euro, with trophy also for the second and third place.
• "Trend reverse" Prize Trophy + 200 €. to the short film that will deal best with the theme of the event: “TREND REVERSE. Strategies to oppose a chronic decline”;
• Environmental sustainability. SSection dedicated to short films and documentaries that have as their theme environmental sustainability, lifestyles in harmony with the planet, climate change and other references to the 17 Sdgs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the UN Agenda 2030. For the third consecutive year, thanks to the partnership with Officine Sostenibili Società Benefit, a company specialized in the creation of communication and environmental education campaigns aimed at citizens and schools of all levels, the best themed works will be awarded at the festival by a specific jury and thewinners will sign a paid contract to be included in Educational Goal 2025/26 (www.educationalgoal.it), a program of events and initiatives (films, documentaries, contests , live talk show) for sustainability education, which in recent editions has involved over 50 cities, 220 schools, 650 classes, 6,000 primary school students and 4,000 secondary school students across the entire national territory.
• The Imaginal: Trophy + € 100. Award that the Daena association wants to dedicate to those who manage to treat a social (or psychological) theme with originality, style and communication.
• Best school short - School days: prize dedicated to the best short film made in schools of any type and grade (Schools can ask a waiver code for free entry) or movies about young people.
• Details that make the difference. Sometimes it's the details that make the difference. An old dress reborn, a childhood puppet that becomes the protagonist of another child's happiness, the neglected or forgotten detail that becomes the pivot of rebirth and redemption. As an Association that oversees the most valuable traditional agricultural and rural realities, to defend them against standardized and cheap products, Slow Food will reward the stories that are able to highlight the details ignored by everyone which then turn out to be the right horse on which to bet and change destiny..
For feature films: this year Corto e capo confirms the interest in the world of independent feature films and documentaries, works made from 2024 onwards and that are in Italian or with Italian subtitles, with the following sections in competition:
• DAENA Award for feature films € 200 + Trophy, dedicated to independent works of fiction of any genre and on any subject lasting more than 52 minutes;
• Special DAENA documentary prize € 200 + Trophy, dedicated to documentary works lasting more than 20 minutes.
Premo Mario Puzo Trophy to the best screenplay that the jury will assign to the work that will have a better narrative structure and a high quality writing. The award is a tribute to the great Mario Puzo, author and writer of successful works such as Il padrino, Cotton club and Superman, which has its origins in Dentecane, just a few steps from the festival.

I corti e i lungometraggi in gara saranno divisi in diverse sezioni e concorreranno a diversi premi come segue:
Per Cortometraggi: le opere di qualsiasi tipo (animazione, fiction, documentario, videoclip) della durata massima di 15 minuti, in italiano o sottotitolati in italiano, realizzati dal 2025 in poi e che non abbiamo partecipato a precedenti edizioni di Corto e a capo-Premio Mario Puzo possono iscriversi alle seguenti sezioni:
• Miglior Corto Premio Corto e a capo: Trofeo + 500 Euro al miglior corto a tema libero.
• Premio “Inversione di tendenza” Trofeo + 200 €. al cortometraggio che tratterà meglio di tutti il tema della manifestazione: “INVERSIONE DI TENDENZA. Strategie per opporsi ad un cronicizzato declino”.
• Sostenibilità ambientale. Cortometraggi e Documentari che abbiano come tema la sostenibilità ambientale, stili di vita in armonia con il Pianeta, il cambiamento climatico e altri riferimenti ai 17 Sdgs (Sustainable Development Goals) dell'Agenda Onu 2030. Per il terzo anno consecutivo, grazie alla partnership con Officine Sostenibili Società Benefit, impresa specializzata nella realizzazione di campagne di comunicazione ed educazione ambientale rivolte a cittadini e scuole di ogni ordine e grado, le migliori opere a tema saranno premiate al festival da una specifica giuria e i vincitori sottoscriveranno un contratto retribuito per essere inseriti all’interno di Educational Goal 2025/26 (www.educationalgoal.it). Educational goal è un cartellone di eventi e iniziative (film, documentari, contest, talk show live) per l'educazione alla sostenibilità, che nelle ultime edizioni ha coinvolto oltre 50 città, 220 scuole, 650 classi, 6.000 alunni delle scuole primarie e 4.000 studenti delle scuole secondarie su tutto il territorio nazionale.
• Miglior corto sociale - L’immaginale: trofeo + 100€. Premio che l’associazione Daena vuole dedicare a chi riesce a trattare un tema sociale (o psicologico) con originalità, stile e comunicativa.
• Miglior corto scolastico – School days: premio dedicato al miglior corto realizzato negli istituti scolastici di qualunque tipo e grado (le scuole e gli istituti posso chiedere un Waiver code per ottenere l’iscrizione gratuita) o che tratti tematiche giovanili o dell’infanzia.
• Dimmi che filtro usi e ti dirò chi sei. Ritrovare le Origini senza tornare indietro. Recuperare un amore, un paesaggio, un paio di scarpe, il tempo perduto, riscrivendo la storia per avere una seconda opportunità. Nella sfida tra artificialità e autenticità, premieremo l’opera di “recupero” dal significato autentico e dal linguaggio più contemporaneo, aiutandoci a ritornare al…futuro.
Mentre nelle aree maggiormente antropizzate la tendenza è quella di eliminare i filtri (soprattutto sui social network) per tornare a vedere il mondo in maniera più autentica, nelle aree interne è ancora “utile” guardare la realtà attraverso dei tool che generano illusioni.
Per lungometraggi: Il Festival Mario Puzo - Corto e a capo conferma l’interesse per il mondo del lungometraggio indipendente e dei documentari, opere realizzate dal 2024 in poi e che siano in lingua italiana o con sottotitoli in italiano, con le seguenti sezioni in concorso:
• Premio DAENA per lungometraggi 200€ + Trofeo, dedicato a opere indipendenti di finzione di qualsiasi genere e a tema libero della durata superiore a 52 minuti.
• Premio DAENA speciale documentario, Premio + 200 euro, dedicato alle opere a carattere documentaristico della durata superiore a 20 minuti.
Premo Mario Puzo Trofeo alla miglior sceneggiatura che un’apposita giuria assegnerà all’opera che avrà un miglior impianto narrativo e una scrittura di alta qualità. Il premio è un omaggio al grande Mario Puzo, autore e sceneggiatore di opere di successo come Il padrino, Cotton club e Superman, che ha origini dentecanesi, proprio a pochi passi dalla sede del festival.
