For the ninth consecutive year, the Corto e a capo/Premio Mario Puzo festival continues its journey to bring cinema where cinema is not usually at home, in the suburbs, in internal areas, in those areas where it is often difficult to see moving images beyond the screens of their mobile phones or televisions.
The theme of this edition is THE PLACE OF DREAMS. Glimpses of a hinterland capable of asking, laughing and hoping. In a context and in a historical moment in which the only concerns seem to be those of preserving and surviving, we try to allow ourselves the luxury of trying to restore the centrality of dreams, will, planning, even pretensions. “We don't want to be so dreamless right away” said Pasolini and we too, against a hopeless destiny, will seek out and tell stories that look to tomorrow without fear, without settling. We will open the screen to those who act with a smile, waiting for the good asked of life to become reality.
You walk insecurely because, like cinema, dreams are not exactly at home in places characterized by ageing, isolation and economic crisis, but many stories and many dreams can represent a first step in building a reality that does not give up one's hopes anymore beautiful.

Per il nono anno consecutivo, il festival Corto e a capo/Premio Mario Puzo continua il suo viaggio per portare il cinema dove il cinema solitamente non è di casa, nelle periferie, nelle aree interne, in quelle zone dove spesso è difficile vedere immagini in movimento oltre gli schermi dei propri telefonini o dei propri televisori.
Il tema di questa edizione è IL POSTO DEI SOGNI. Sguardi su un entroterra in grado di chiedere, ridere e sperare. In un contesto e in un momento storico in cui le sole preoccupazioni sembrano essere quelle di conservare e sopravvivere, cerchiamo di concederci il lusso di provare a ridare centralità ai sogni, alla volontà, alla progettualità, perfino alle pretese. “Non vogliamo essere subito così senza sogni” diceva Pasolini e anche noi, contro un destino privo di speranza, cercheremo e racconteremo storie che guardano al domani senza paura, senza accontentarsi. Apriremo lo schermo a chi, con il sorriso agisce, aspettando che il buono chiesto alla vita, diventi realtà.
Cammini insicuri perché, come il cinema, anche i sogni non sono proprio di casa in dei posti caratterizzati da invecchiamento, isolamento e crisi economica, ma tante storie e tanti sogni possono rappresentare un primo passo per costruire una realtà che non rinuncia alle proprie speranze più belle.
FILM COMPETITION:
Short film contest: works of any kind (animation, fiction, documentary, videoclip) lasting up to 15 minutes, in Italian or subtitled in Italian, made from 2021 onwards and that we have not participated in previous editions of Corto e Capo/Mario Puzo Prize contend the following awards:
• Best Short Daena / Short Prize Corto e a capo: trophy + 500 Euro.
• Prize "The place of dreams" Trophy + 200 €. to the short film that will deal best with the theme of the event: “THE PLACE OF DREAMS. Glimpses of a hinterland capable of asking, laughing and hoping;
• Best Social Short - The Imaginal: Trophy + € 100. Award that the Daena association wants to dedicate to those who manage to treat a social (or psychological) theme with originality, style and communication.
• Best school short - School days: prize dedicated to the best short film made in schools of any type and grade (Schools can ask a waiver code for free entry).
• A sustainable life – 17 Dreams. Short films and documentaries that have as their theme environmental sustainability, lifestyles in harmony with the planet, climate change and other references to the 17 SDGS (Sustainable Development Goals) of the UN Agenda 2030. Officine Sostenibili Benefit company, specialized in creating campaigns of communication and environmental education aimed at citizens and schools of all levels, is a partner of the festival to select stories that have a clear reference to the issues of environmental sustainability in their plot and development. The best themed works will be awarded at the festival by a specific jury and the winners will sign a paid contract to be included in Educational Goal 2023/24 (www.educationalgoal.it), a program of events and initiatives (films, documentaries, contests , live talk show) for sustainability education, which in recent editions has involved over 50 cities, 220 schools, 650 classes, 6,000 primary school pupils and 4,000 secondary school students throughout the country.
• Feet on the ground or head in the air? Slow Food Avellino Award. Slow Food Avellino APS calls together stories of out of tune notes with a moral is having your feet planted on the ground a gift or a limitation? A world without inequalities, happiness complete, goals all achieved, lack of desires: all so perfect as to seem unreal. Or maybe this already happens when we resign ourselves to things as they are, passively accepting the events that happen to us without thinking differently, creatively? The merit, then, goes to those who question everything except the reason why they started following intuition, immune to the sense of surrender that makes every enterprise feel useless. For feature films: this year Corto e capo confirms the interest in the world of independent feature films and documentaries, works made from 2021 onwards and that are in Italian or with Italian subtitles, with the following sections in competition:
• DAENA Award for feature films € 200 + Trophy, dedicated to independent works of fiction of any genre and on any subject lasting more than 52 minutes;
• Special DAENA documentary prize € 200 + Trophy, dedicated to documentary works lasting more than 20 minutes.
Premo Mario Puzo Trophy to the best screenplay that the jury will assign to the work that will have a better narrative structure and a high quality writing. The award is a tribute to the great Mario Puzo, author and writer of successful works such as Il padrino, Cotton club and Superman, which has its origins in Dentecane, just a few steps from the festival.

Per Cortometraggi: le opere di qualsiasi tipo (animazione, fiction, documentario, videoclip) della durata massima di 15 minuti, in italiano o sottotitolati in italiano, realizzati dal 2021 in poi e che non abbiamo partecipato a precedenti edizioni di Corto e a capo-Premio Mario Puzo possono iscriversi alle seguenti sezioni:
• Miglior Corto Premio Corto e a capo: Trofeo + 500 Euro al miglior corto a tema libero, con trofeo anche al secondo e al terzo classificato.
• Premio “Il posto dei sogni” Trofeo + 200 €. al cortometraggio che tratterà meglio di tutti il tema della manifestazione: “IL POSTO DEI SOGNI. Sguardi su un entroterra in grado di chiedere, ridere e sperare”.
• Miglior corto sociale - L’immaginale: trofeo + 100€. Premio che l’associazione Daena vuole dedicare a chi riesce a trattare un tema sociale (o psicologico) con originalità, stile e comunicativa.
• Miglior corto scolastico – School days: premio dedicato al miglior corto realizzato negli istituti scolastici di qualunque tipo e grado (le scuole e gli istituti posso chiedere un Waiver code per ottenere l’iscrizione gratuita) o che tratti tematiche giovanili o dell’infanzia.
• Una vita sostenibile – 17 Sogni. Cortometraggi e Documentari che abbiano come tema la sostenibilità ambientale, stili di vita in armonia con il Pianeta, il cambiamento climatico e altri riferimenti ai 17 Sdgs (Sustainable Development Goals) dell'Agenda Onu 2030. Officine Sostenibili Società Benefit, specializzata nella realizzazione di campagne di comunicazione ed educazione ambientale rivolte a cittadini e scuole di ogni ordine e grado, è partner del festival per selezionare storie che abbiano chiaro il riferimento alle tematiche della sostenibilità ambientale nella propria trama e sviluppo. Le migliori opere a tema saranno premiate al festival da una specifica giuria e i vincitori sottoscriveranno un contratto retribuito per essere inseriti all’interno di Educational Goal 2023/24 (www.educationalgoal.it), cartellone di eventi e iniziative (film, documentari, contest, talk show live) per l'educazione alla sostenibilità, che nelle ultime edizioni ha coinvolto oltre 50 città, 220 scuole, 650 classi, 6.000 alunni delle scuole primarie e 4.000 studenti delle scuole secondarie su tutto il territorio nazionale.
• Piedi per terra o testa per aria? Premio Slow Food Avellino. Slow Food Avellino APS chiama a raccolta storie di note stonate con una morale
Avere i piedi piantati a terra è un dono o un limite? Un mondo senza diseguaglianze, la felicità compiuta, gli obiettivi tutti raggiunti, la mancanza di desideri: tutto così perfetto da sembrare irreale. O forse questo già capita quando ci rassegniamo alle cose come stanno, accettando passivamente le vicende che ci accadono senza pensare differentemente, creativamente?
Il merito, allora, è di chi mette in discussione tutto tranne il motivo per il quale si è messo in moto seguendo l'intuizione, immune al senso di resa che fa ritenere inutile ogni impresa.
Slow Food Avellino APS premierà l'opera di chi è disposto a distruggere pur di non conservare, e sogna e bisogna di azione. Ciak.
Per lungometraggi: Il Festival Mario Puzo - Corto e a capo conferma l’interesse per il mondo del lungometraggio indipendente e dei documentari, opere realizzate dal 2021 in poi e che siano in lingua italiana o con sottotitoli in italiano, con le seguenti sezioni in concorso:
• Premio DAENA per lungometraggi 200€ + Trofeo, dedicato a opere indipendenti di finzione di qualsiasi genere e a tema libero della durata superiore a 52 minuti.
• Premio DAENA speciale documentario, Premio + 200 euro, dedicato alle opere a carattere documentaristico della durata superiore a 20 minuti.
