CSFF IS ALL COMEDY for 2021!

Everyone loves comedy! - In these challenging times, we invite filmmakers to create comedy! All films should have a comedy theme.

Films can be submitted in animation, comedy and sci-fi genres, but must all be a comedy. Filmmakers and screenwriters can submit projects for the middle and high school, college, military veteran, Native American and general adult categories but they ALL MUST BE COMEDIES!!

I think that gives you a picture of what we're looking for this year. Smiles, laughs and giggles!

(A one-joke film, unless it carried the joke with variations throughout the film, would not be a comedy.)

On November 6-7, 2021, Copa Shorts Film Fest 5th Annual Festival will have great films for your viewing enjoyment. We’ll be offering film blocks with more choice of when you wish to view the films.

With our streaming partner, we’ll offer a way for viewers to provide feedback on the films. And, with filmmaker participation during the festival, you can hear back from them.

Filmmaker educational workshops will also be offered virtually. And, we’ll include awards announcements.

Submissions are for films and screenplays until July 31! Get your films and screenplays in NOW! (20 minutes or less; 20 pages or less)

On September 18, the filmmakers and screenwriters of our chosen films and screenplays will be notified.

You’ll have the opportunity to reserve your film block and educational workshop tickets in advance. More details coming soon!

See the submission page for your category and fees. Final submission deadline is July 31, 2021.

Cash prizes, professional software, and more!

I'm honored that Copa Shorts selected our Native American film "Coming Home" for their 2020 film festival! I can't rate the hospitality & networking categories, because the fest was online ~ but I will say emphatically that Director Shelley Gillespie did everything possible to make it a top-shelf experience. Her communication and attention to detail couldn't have been better, and we felt very welcomed and appreciated, even virtually. Thanks to all who made the Copa Shorts fest a "virtual" success!

    Thank you, Shelby!

We really appreciate your comments. To make our festival safe for filmmakers and audience, we knew we needed to go virtual. We'll be doing that again in 2021. And,

We'll be all comedy!! Everyone needs a boost after the year we've all had. If you have a short comedy film, please consider submitting it! Thank you for your participation in Copa Shorts!

I was honored that my short film, "Interloper" was selected to screen at at Copa Shorts Film Fest. I wish I was able to be there in person to see that beautiful city, but given the situation we're all in, the virtual festival was a wonderful solution! I hope to be able to attend a future Copa Fest! Shelley stayed in regular communication with me and made me feel welcome. The whole experience was top-notch. Well worth the submission fee, I highly recommend you submit your next project to Copa Shorts Film Fest!

We appreciate the kind words and were so glad to screen your film. Your film had an intriguing concept that was well-executed.

Hello Grandin Theatre Film Lab participants and staff -

We were excited to have several films from your lab that we screened at Copa Shorts! One audience member commented that they were delighted at the caliber of high school films - and your group really contributed to that quality!

We loved being a part of the festival this year. Though it was virtual, we had a nice time watching the films at home. I hope to be a part of the show when we are back in person.
One unique aspect of this festival I really appreciated was the recommended age "rating" for the films. I wish every festival aware of the reality that there could be kids watching. It really helps me as a parent.

    Response from festival:

    Hi Jonason -

    We appreciate your kind words!

"Moving Day" was an easy choice for Director's Choice! Your film was so much fun! Attendees also loved it as it became the Audience Choice as well.

Keep making comedy - it is so very much needed. And your sense of the comedic is very appealing.

Really wonderful festival. Captures the essence of the local filmmaking community here in Maricopa county, but also enriches the festival with a lineup of gripping content from overseas. The festival directors are perfectly pleasant, and I truly can't wait to see what they select to screen in coming years!

    Response from festival:

    Hi Ethan -

Thank you for entering Copa Shorts Film Fest!

We wondered how the audience would feel about your very brave topic and approach in "Hackers." Both the attendees and our film reviewers felt you created an informative and interesting documentary that kept their attention.

We appreciated your candor and exploring your "misfit Superheroes!"

The quality of your project certainly merited being chosen as "Best High School Film."

    Please keep making films!
