Crazy Talented Asians & Friends (“CTAF”) is dedicated to works by Asian Americans
and/or Asians. CTAF's mission is to be the catalyst for promoting mutual understanding through the arts by celebrating the creativity and spirit of the community.

Selected work will be screened at the Flushing Town Hall on the day of the festival based on the selections from an independent panel of juries.

I. Overview
The 2024 CTAF Animation Festival for Shorts and Motion Designs (the “CTAF event”) welcomes all such works from the community in New York and around the globe.

There are three (3) categories for the submissions:
1. Animation Short Film
2. Motion Design
3. CTAF Branding

The artists can choose to submit to ONLY 1 of the first 2 categories (Animation OR
Motion), plus a second, separate, optional submission to the CTAF Branding category.
However, the CTAF Event reserves the right to place their submission in a different
category.

II. Submission Qualification and Judging Guidelines

The animation short film category covers animated short stories accompanied by sound
with narratives. The motion design category covers graphic designs that are given
movements using animation techniques. These are usually accompanied by sound and
music without necessarily following a specific narrative. The CTAF motion branding
category covers motion graphics designs for the CTAF brand.

The general qualification requirements are:

1. Animation Short Film: 10 minutes or shorter;
2. Motion Design: 2 minutes or shorter;
3. CTAF Motion Branding: 2 minutes or shorter; current year only

III. Release Agreement

By submitting the artistic work, and/or any other audiovisual materials (the “Submitted Work”) to the CTAF event, the artist (“Participant”) hereby agrees to the following terms and conditions set forth in the this CTAF event Release Agreement (“Agreement”):
1. Participant represents and warrants that (i) Participant is at least eighteen (18) years of age and is duly authorized to enter into, and to grant the rights and make the representations, warranties, and other obligations under, this Agreement and (ii) Participant is the sole owner or is otherwise authorized to reproduce, distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, and digitally transmit the Submitted Work, and as such, is authorized to license the Submitted Work to the CTAF event and Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts, d/b/a Flushing Town Hall (“Organizer”) for public display and digital transmission. Participant further represents and warrants that (i) they have secured limited proprietary rights for the Submitted Work, including, but not limited to, the copyright and trademark rights of all third party content, including, but not limited to, third party images and audio or voice recordings utilized in the Submitted Work, and is authorized to license all third party content used in the Submitted Work to Organizer for public display, use in any publicity, marketing, or advertising materials, and digital transmission; (ii) the exhibition of the Submitted Work in the CTAF event, by any and all technologies and means of delivery whether now or hereafter known or devised, will not violate any law or regulation or infringe or otherwise violate any right of any third party, including, but not limited to, any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right, any right against defamation, or any right of publicity or privacy; (iii) the Submitted Work is free and clear of any pending or threatened litigation, arbitration, or other adversarial claim or proceeding.
2. Participant agrees that they shall retain written proof of all proprietary right and that it will keep such proof on file for a period of five years after the date of the CTAF event and will forward such proof upon request by Organizer.
3. Participant agrees to defend against, and to fully indemnify and forever hold harmless Organizer, its employees, personnel, sponsors, partners, producers and representatives, including sponsors and producers of the CTAF event, (each, an “Indemnitee”), individually and collectively, from and against, any and all liabilities, claims, demands, actions, suits, damages, and expenses, including but not limited to claims for copyright or trademark infringement, infringement of moral rights, libel, defamation, invasion of any rights of privacy (including intrusion, false light, public disclosure of private facts, and misappropriation of name or likeness), violation of rights of publicity, physical or emotional injury or distress, or any similar claim or cause of action in tort, contract, or any other legal theory, now or hereafter known in any jurisdiction throughout the world (collectively, “Claims”) that may be brought against an Indemnitee or any of its subsidiaries, successors, or assigns by anyone (whether governmental or non-governmental) arising in whole or in part from (i) Participant’s failure to obtain the necessary contracts and releases with or from all parties whose names, likenesses, testimonials, scripts, or musical compositions are used in the Submitted Work, or (ii) any negligent or intentional act or omission on the part of the Participant, whether such Claims are asserted by third-party complaint, cross-claim or otherwise, or whether such claims are asserted for indemnity, contribution or otherwise. This obligation shall extend to all damages, liabilities, costs and expenses, including settlement costs and reasonable attorney’s fees.
4. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Participant waives all Claims arising directly or indirectly from the Organizer's exercise of the rights granted under this Agreement, including without limitation the submission, review, exhibition, advertising, and promotion of the Submitted Work, and any failure to exhibit the Submitted Work, and covenant not to make or bring any such Claims against the Organizer, the CTAF Event or any Indemnitee and forever release and discharge the Organizer, the CTAF Event or any Indemnitee from liability under such Claims.
5. Participant agrees that the Organizer shall have the right to decide to use the participating works in full or in part. Participant agrees that it shall grant a royalty-free perpetual license to the Organizer to screen its Submitted Work and to use portions of the Submitted Work including the title, select work clips, snippets of dialogue or scenes, publicity stills, log-line, as well as Participant’s name and likeness in any publicity, marketing, or advertising materials to promote the CTAF event or Organizer.
6. Participant understands and acknowledges that (i) the Submitted Work is being submitted voluntarily and without promise or inducement; (ii) they shall not withdraw their Submitted Work or cancel its scheduled screening once the Submitted Work is selected for the CTAF event and any promotional efforts or screening are made by the Organizer without Organizer’s express consent. If Participant violates this Term, Participant agrees to reimburse Organizer for any reasonable expenses arising from any promotional or marketing efforts involved in promoting the Submitted Work or any reasonable expenses arising from publicly exhibiting the Submitted Work as part of the CTAF event within 30 days of the cancelled event or screening.
7. Participant agrees to grant a royalty-free perpetual license to the Organizer to transfer the submitted screener to a required media format for screening, if needed, and that such reformatted media may be used for any promotional, marketing, advertising, or fundraising purposes by the Organizer.
