Dear artists/filmmakers,
Culture Art Society (CAS) and Monangambee are calling on Black filmmakers to submit their short films for our forthcoming collaboration – an online cinematic programme and gathering that presents experimental filmmaking as articulated by women and non-binary filmmakers of African descent.
We are especially keen on submissions that blur the line between film and other visual and sonic arts, as well as non-linear, open-ended and polyphonic perspectives. Perhaps in tension with Western-centric approaches to experimental filmmaking which have often tended towards the non-narrative, we also welcome submissions that embrace narrative and fiction, albeit in unconventional ways.
Supporting Black art is at the core of both CAS and Monangambee’s platforms. With this programme we hope to bring together different generations of Black moving image artists, showcasing contemporary works alongside past ones.
