Afreximbank, through its Creative Africa Nexus programme (CANEX) is excited to announce CANEX Shorts. A short film competition for young filmmakers in Africa and the Diaspora. CANEX Shorts has been established in order to further engage with the film community ahead of CANEX at IATF2023. CANEX at this year's Intra-African Trade Fair will take place in Cairo from 9 - 15 November and will once again host an engaging and exciting programme of creative industry conversations, masterclasses, deal rooms, market and exhibition and more.

CANEX Shorts is a short film competition that will culminate in screenings and an award ceremony at CANEX at IATF2023.

La Banque africaine d'import-export (Afreximbank), par le biais de son programme Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), a le plaisir d'annoncer un concours de courts métrages et une initiative de projection, CANEX Shorts. CANEX Shorts est un concours passionnant et dynamique qui permettra aux jeunes cinéastes d'être reconnus pour leur travail ainsi que d'avoir l'opportunité d'assister et d'être présentés à CANEX lors de l'IATF2023.

Awards & Prizes

CANEX Shorts will award 3 prizes based on the selection of a well known and respected jury.

Each winner will receive a cash prize of $2000 and have their film screened at CANEX at IATF2023 and be invited to the event. Flights and accommodation to be paid for.

Rules & Terms

Eligibility:
The competition is open to Africans living on the continent and in the diaspora
Films must be no longer than 5 minutes in length
The filmmaker must currently be between the ages of 18 – 29. The film must have been made in 2022 or after and at the time of making the film the filmmaker must have been between the ages of 18-29. Substantiation may be requested.
The filmmaker must own all rights - including music and must have supporting documentation
Films can be in any language but those not in English, must be subtitled in English
A digital link to the film must be provided in the submission
Only one film per filmmaker
Selected filmmakers will be required to sign a release / rights agreement
Entrants must have a bank account where they can receive international payments

Critères de sélection
• Le concours est ouvert aux Africains vivant sur le continent et dans la diaspora.
• Les films ne doivent pas durer plus de 5 minutes.
• Le cinéaste doit être âgé de 18 à 29 ans.
• Le cinéaste doit détenir tous les droits
• Les films peuvent être réalisés dans n'importe quelle langue, mais ceux qui ne sont pas en anglais doivent être sous-titrés en anglais.
• Un lien numérique vers le film doit être fourni dans la soumission.
• Un seul film par cinéaste
• Les cinéastes sélectionnés devront signer un accord de décharge / droit d'auteur.
• Les participants doivent disposer d'un compte bancaire sur lequel ils peuvent recevoir des paiements internationaux.
