Welcome to Budapest Independent Film Festival, a 2-day annual event dedicated to independent filmmakers from all over the world.

Every year, we celebrate independent cinema in the heart of lively Budapest. Puskin Mozi, one of the city’s oldest art cinemas, provides a perfect venue for our event, created for the culture-loving, cinephile, international crowd of the city.

The festival’s aim is to provide a platform for filmmakers who don’t necessarily have a large budget, but a vision and an important story to tell. Through our careful selection process our goal is to showcase a wide variety of genres and styles to cinema fans and fellow international filmmakers.

We will be handing out a number of awards at the event in a number of categories, selected and evaluated by our Jury. Our Jury panel consists of experienced and educated members of the film industry and we also offer film critiques for your film.

We encourage you to submit to several categories in order to increase your chances of getting selected.

We look forward to putting on a spectacular event in the beautiful city of Budapest and showcasing your film.

We are now open for submissions for our 2020 edition!

Budapest Independent Film Festival is run in association with Close:Up, a collection of international film festivals supporting indie filmmaking. By establishing a working network among filmmakers, producers and marketing professionals, we share one common goal: to forge productive and lasting relationships between independent filmmakers and audiences.

Winners will be awarded with Award Certificates, and online VOD distribution deals with our partnering streaming platform.

Press and photographers will be invited to the festival.

Our Jury Panel includes:

Agnes Horvath-Szabo, Producer
Judge for Best Short Documentary

Unique experience in the heart of Budapest. We were lucky enough to win with our film "Telephone". The selection was a good mix. Good feedback and communication. The venue is really cool, as is the whole of Budapest. Lots of unique charm to the city and I think that comes through with how they choose to do their events. Would love to come back again!
