Brighton Fringe are launching their first ever shorts programme!

With genres spanning across comedy, theatre, spoken word, and dance, one lacking area of the Brighton Fringe programme in recent years has been film. To boost our film-based events, we are running a short film programme, allowing filmmakers with shorter run times to be part of Brighton Fringe without having to put on their own event.

The aim of the shorts programme is to highlight underrepresented voices within filmmaking, which is why we have chosen the following categories:

- LGBTQ+ Shorts
- Women & Gender Minority Shorts
- Global Majority Shorts
- Disability Shorts

The event will take place at Lewes Depot on Saturday 18 May as part of Brighton Fringe 2024.

- Films must have a run time of under 15 minutes.

- Films must have at least one person in a key role (i.e. director, producer, writer) who meets the criteria of the category they are applying to, OR the film must feature a cast and themes that meet the criteria.

- LGBTQ+: one or more members of the team, ideally in a key role (director, producer, writer), must identify as LGBTQ+.

- Women & Gender Minority: one or more members of the team, ideally in a key role (director, producer, writer), must identify as a woman or gender minority.

- Global Majority: one or more members of the team, ideally in a key role (director, producer, writer), must identify as part of the global majority.

- Disability: one or more members of the team, ideally in a key role (director, producer, writer), must identify as disabled and/or neurodivergent.

  • My sons and I were honored to have our short film DORFMAN RIDES AT DAWN screen at this year's BRIGHTON FRINGE SHORT FILM PROGRAM. Although we weren't able to attend in person, we followed the festival via social media. We are overjoyed to be a small part of this awesome festival that celebrates underrepresented filmmakers. Great communication, incredible films and fantastic filmmakers! Highly recommend!!
