Braga Science Film Fest is an international science short film festival, online and totally free. The festival is focused on promoting science communication through cinema, by nurturing the dialogue between scientific ideas and concepts and audiovisual narratives with creative content, accessible to different audiences. Apart from the short films in competition, the festival includes non-competitive sessions with some of the best films that have been screened by partner festivals, and a series of workshops and lectures that offer participants tools to understand and explore the potential of audiovisual in science.

Braga Science Film Fest is an online film festival promoted by the Master in Science Communication from the University of Minho, Portugal.
The selected films will be password protected and available for viewing online during the festival.

ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
-There is no submission fee.
- Entries will only be accepted in digital format through FilmFreeway. We do not accept physical screeners.
- All entries must have been produced after January,1 2019 in the genres: Fiction, Animation and Documentary.
- Entries must be under 40 minutes in length (credits included).
- All short films with dialogue must be in English or English narrated or subtitled.
- Each entrant can submit no more than 3 short films.
- We do not accept rough cuts and works in progress.
- Confirmation of receipt of entry will be emailed.
- The organization accepts no responsibility for entries lost, delayed or not received for any reason.
- Submissions must be received no later than October,1 2023.

JUDGING & SELECTION
- By submitting your short film you are agreeing it can be screened online on the festival website (in an area reserved for registered participants during the festival) and other exhibits related to it, if they exist.
- The festival programmers will decide which entries make it to the final judging round.
- We do not exclude any films on the basis of whether they have been on festival circuit, have premiered, or are already available online (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
- For purposes of official selection, the programmers will select up to 30 short films. The numbers of this selection may vary according to participation and work quality.
- The selected short films will be presented during the online festival and submitted to the jury's evaluation.
- No member of the jury can sign up for the contest.
- The jury’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The short films will be evaluated taking into account the scientific merit; originality; technical quality (image, sound and animation); argument; acting and/or voice-over and directing.
- All entrants will be informed of the result of their applications until October 15, 2023.
- Only one trophy will be produced per category - if a winning production is a group entry, the group will have to share their trophy.
- The jury reserves the right to award Honorable Mentions, or not to award any awards/distinctions.

COPYRIGHT & PERMISSIONS
- Copyright resides entirely with the artist(s). By submitting your entry to the festival, you confirm that you have obtained all releases necessary from the point of view of copyright law, to be used for the online public viewing or for any promotional activity related to the event.
- In the case of student works, you must ensure you have obtained permission from students and/or their parents to use their image in your films. By submitting your entry to the festival you confirm you have received all required permissions.
- The festival organization will not be held responsible for any breach of copyright or permissions arising from any entries submitted.

PROMOTIONAL USE
Entrants shall allow clips or images from their works for promotional purposes only. Please provide a 300dpi image and a short trailer for this purpose.

WITHDRAWAL
After a successful submission, the registration cannot be canceled or withdrawn from the competition

The festival organization reserves the right to consider and decide any matter omitted in this Regulation.
