Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Blussh Romance Festival is a celebration of romance, love and connection through film screenings and author events. It brings together romance culture consumers, filmmakers, writers, and readers. This is the only festival of this type in Australia.

Blussh Romance Festival vision is ‘to emerge as Australia's premier romance film and book festival, fostering meaningful connections between audiences, captivating stories and the storytellers, through the romance genre’.

Opening Night film and event in 2024 was a sell out with USA best selling authors, award wining film directors, talent and crew in attendance. Representatives from the literary and screen state and national bodies were also in attendance.

Blussh Quickies is our version of a short film program. Within Blussh Romance Festival, Blussh Quickies, provides a platform for independent filmmakers from around Australia and the world to create some romantic short film magic.

Blussh Quickies aims to attract filmmakers, industry professionals, film enthusiasts, and audiences interested in exploring storytelling in a condensed format. In the spirit of Flickerfest, Tropfest and Gold Coast Shorts in Paradise festival (SIPfest), we know the short new film program addition will be warmly welcomed.

Finalist films will be screened as part of the Blussh Romance Festival program, including a special post screening awards announcement, with the esteemed panel of judges selecting the Best Film, Best Screenplay and People’s Choice.

Blussh Quickies - Rules and Terms
1. Blussh Quickies will be screened during the Blussh Romance festival. The Award winners will be announced shortly post screening.
2. All short films screening as Official Selections are eligible for the People’s Choice Award. The award is based solely on audience voting at the film screening.
3. The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
4. The prizes will be awarded to one nominated producer on the entry form of the short film. If entrants are from a team they must negotiate this between themselves.
5. The event is a juried short film competition open to independent Australian and International filmmakers.
6. Filmmakers are asked to make a film no longer than 10 minutes.
7. You must have the permission to use any images, storylines, music etc. in your film. Entries containing any unauthorised content will be disqualified.
8. The filmmaker(s) give Blussh Romance Festival permission to use all submitted materials, including but not limited to film stills, descriptions, director’s biography in any and all forms of media for the express purpose of festival promotion and publicity.
9. The short film must be of the romantic genre. It can include reference to any sub genres or tropes. The romance genre primarily focuses on the relationship and romantic love between two people, typically with an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending. We welcome all love narratives.
10. We seek films that explore story telling in a creatively, authentically, novel and exciting manner.
11. Films must be submitted via FilmFreeway.com
12. The title, submission ID number, screening format, and running time must be clearly labelled.
13. Films may be in any language or have no dialogue at all. Foreign-language dialogue must have English subtitles.
14. The Blussh Quickies program will be promoted as an all ages event.
15. Films with mild to moderate themes for an all-ages audience are encouraged.
16. Feature films must have been completed within the last 2 years (after 01 January 2022)

Blussh Feature Film - Rules and Terms
1. Blussh Romance Festival accepts Australian and International feature films over 70 minutes in length, including credits.
2. Feature films must have been completed within the last 2 years (after 01 January 2022)
3. All non-English language films must be subtitled in English. If selected, the screening version must also be subtitled.
4. We discourage entries which may be considered corporate or marketing documentaries.
5. The short film must be of the romantic genre. It can include reference to any sub genres or tropes. The romance genre primarily focuses on the relationship and romantic love between two people, typically with an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending
6. Films must not have been (or will not be) broadcast on television or a streaming platform or publicly screened, distributed or exhibited (for a targeted cinema release) in a physical location within the state of Queensland, Australia, prior to the festival dates (13 February 2025). The only exceptions to this requirement are for private screenings held for cast, crew or investors, and film-school graduation screenings. Exemptions may be considered by the programming team on a film by film basis.
7. Films must not have been (or will not be) available commercially online and accessible from the state of Queensland, Australia, either for free or via on-demand services prior to the festival dates. Screenings as part of a digital or online festival are permitted if the festival is for a limited run and geoblocked such that access by Australian viewers is prohibited. Exemptions may be considered by the programming team on a film by film basis.
8. Work In Progress Submissions: Our programmers are well accustomed to viewing work that is near completion. If you need to send the film when there is still post-production work left to do, then please let us know what is left to be done (i.e colour grade, sound mix, vfx). Please note that we will not re-view different cuts of the same film, so it is best to wait until you have a cut you are happy with. If you are submitting a work in progress, please ensure a final completed film will be delivered to the festival (if the film is selected) by the content delivery date
9. All "Official Selection" films will be paid a screening fee.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. All the information provided either through the online entry form or through email correspondence with Blussh Romance festival is true and accurate.
2. You either own the rights to, or have permission to use, the footage, sound, music, images, and all other contributions that are part of the Film to the extent necessary to submit the Film to the festival and, if accepted, screen the film at the festival. Please note: if you have any doubts about any of the rights in the film, you must notify the festival at the time of submission.
3. The film must be completed in the past two years with completion date after 1 January 2022.
If your feature film is selected to screen as part of Blussh Romance Festival:
1. You grant Blussh a royalty-free, non-exclusive, Australian license to screen the film between 13 -16 February 2025.
2. You agree to provide Blussh with a downloadable version of the Short Film or DCP of the feature film by no later than 7 Feb 2024
3. Blussh will prepare professional session compiles at its own cost for screening at all its venues. You grant Blussh all necessary rights to copy and otherwise reproduce the film for the purpose of making such compiles and otherwise screening the film and promoting the festival.
4. You must notify Blussh immediately if any of the rights in the film become disputed or a claim is made against you in relation to the film.
5. You must indemnify Blussh from all claims made against Blussh arising from or in connection with the submission of the film, or any infringement of any intellectual property in connection with the screening of the film as part of the Festival.
6. You grant Blussh a royalty-free, non-exclusive Australian license to use film excerpts, film stills, press kits, and other promotional materials from the film for publicity and promotional purposes in relation to the festival, including on its website.

Official Selection for short films and feature films

In the event of your short or feature film being officially selected, you will be notified by invitation. At that point an Official Selection form will be sent for your completion, to confirm the invitation has been accepted, and to gather all the information necessary for the presentation and marketing of the film in the festival.

Entry Fees for all submissions
All entrants must pay a flat fee per film entered. The fee varies based on the category entered and whether it is submitted in the early bird period or not.
PLEASE NOTE, THE ENTRY FEE CANNOT BE WAIVED AND IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
Unselected Projects:
1. Please note the team and judging PANEL DO NOT PROVIDE SPECIFIC FEEDBACK on unselected projects.
2. We DO NOT OFFER REFUNDS to films or projects that aren’t selected for the festival.

Other Important details:
In the event that the short film programs in-person event is cancelled due to circumstances external to the festival's control, Blussh will award all prizes to winners either during a digital awards event or otherwise. Submission fees will not be refunded in the case of restrictions to the festival.

Programming decisions are made at the discretion of the programming team and take into consideration a myriad of factors for curation of the overall final festival program.
It is the filmmakers’ or rights holders' responsibility to ensure that the film or submission meets the eligibility criteria. If a submission subsequently becomes ineligible, while we are grateful if you could let us know, however it is not possible to refund once films are already submitted.

    i do not usually review festivals, but i have to do it here. No communications at all. Festival looks like cool, with an amazing pink carpet and photos and all the stuff. But nothing about shortfilms, no pictures at all. The festival is about romance, about movies, but not about shortfilms. I'm really disapointed and i can't recomend it.
