Spinning off from the Bird Watching Film Festival comes Bird Watching International Film Festival!

Bird Watching International is a yearly three-day festival of in-person screenings and after parties dedicated to bringing indie shorts, documentaries, music videos and feature films to the Kansas City area. Our goal is to connect the Kansas City film scene and Kansas City audiences with each other as well as connecting them with amazing indie filmmakers from all over the globe.

Bird Watching Film Festival started as a monthly screening 3 years ago with the goal of connecting Kansas City audiences with local filmmakers and films. In those 3 years Bird Watching's monthly screenings have been so successful, we decided to branch out to add an additional larger festival; Bird Watching International Film Festival, open to filmmakers from anywhere and everywhere. (Submissions to the local KS or MO monthly screenings still open on our other Filmfreeway Page, and submissions/screenings at the monthly festival will not disqualify you from consideration for Bird Watching International.)

Bird Watching International Film Festival is for filmmakers, and run by filmmakers, with an emphasis on giving opportunities to independent films made with passion (and small budgets!). Our festival directors have been making films in the Mid-West for over 10 years and have attended many festivals in that time and we are hoping to create a festival that we know other filmmakers will enjoy, with opportunities to connect with both audiences and other filmmakers.

  • Had a great time at the first annual BWIFF! This festival is run by filmmakers and you can tell with how much they shine the spotlight on other creators. Definitely worth submitting and attending.

It's rare to have a film festival where the filmmakers get to meet each other and cheer each other on. The filmmaker's coffee gave us a chance to slow down and check in. So when the awards ceremony came, it actually wasn't boring. Besides the lovely chemistry of the hosts, I found myself thrilled to see my fellow filmmakers get recognition. The filmmaker's lounge also helped here because it was actually a hide-a-way setting with couches and food that kept me at the festival longer. Thank you BWIFF!
