Born in 1968 in Chambéry, Max has been an assistant director since 1996, based in Marseille since 2022.
After a scientific baccalaureate, he graduated from the Institut de Chimie et de Physique Industrielle in 1991.
In 1996, after a short career as an engineer specializing in digital image processing and high-frequency transmission, he turned to the cinema and worked as an assistant director on set, where he discovered directing. Between 2001 and 2008, he directed his first fiction short film, Personne Ici, wrote two feature-length films, and shot a number of test shoots, mainly in Super 8. It was during this period that he joined the network of independent laboratories, which are becoming increasingly numerous around the world, enabling filmmakers to work in film and free themselves from the industry.
In 2009, he specialized in location scouting and witnessed the birth of this new profession. Photography became central to his work.
In 2020, the time of confinement gave him the idea of editing certain images shot and photographed with his partner Charlotte Denis. These montages of images and sounds would become the first two opuses in what would become the fictional series Carlota Cortés, the character of a bereaved photographer.
Having completed post-production of the first two parts, Un Castillo en Espaňa and El Viaje, over a period of three years, he is now delivering a third episode, Una Nube, which will be screened for the very first time in Marseille on Saturday, May 2, 2024, accompanied by a photographic exhibition of twelve photograms from the series.
