The BOO International Film Festival was created through the transformation of the ELBE DOCK International Film Festival and the International Film Festival for Children and Youth, Young Film Fest.
The BOO International Film Festival focuses on short-form cinema, audience development, and audiovisual education. It highlights European short films, as well as innovative projects in Czech-German collaboration and cooperation with V4 countries.
1. The Characteristics of the Festival
1.1. Characteristic
BOO is an international film festival. The Festival’s aim is to present the creative film production (and its supporting program), to contribute to the development of arthouse cinema and the film industry.

2. Program sections

Award for a Czech or German short film (live-action, documentary, experimental, animation). A Czech or German film is defined as a film by a Czech or German director or a film primarily produced by at least one of these countries. A short film is defined as a film with a runtime of 30 minutes or less.
AWARD FOR THE BEST EUROPEAN SHORT FILM
Award for a European short film (live-action, documentary, experimental, animation). A European film is defined as a film by a European director or a film primarily produced by at least one of the European countries. A short film is defined as a film with a runtime of 30 minutes or less.

2.2. The Festival program also includes non-competitive sections and other accompanying programs.
3. Film pre-selection (submission guidelines)
3.1. Submitters
The person submitting the film (hereafter “Submitter“) acknowledges that he or she has obtained consent from all authorized representatives of the film to submit it to the competition.
3.2. Film selection
Films for the competition sections are selected by the Programming Committee.
3.3. Films eligible for open submissions
Film eligible for the competition must have had its premiere (cinema or festival distribution) during the previous calendar year at the latest. Films premiering this year or premiering at BOO can also enter the competition.
3.4. Submission fee
Submission to the competition is free of charge, there are no submission fees.
3.5. License fee
The Festival does not pay screening or licensing fees for selected films.
4. Preview screeners
4.1. Preview screener
The preview screener must be sent online together with the submission form on the website. The Festival prefers films sent via Vimeo. Please clearly indicate if the submitted screener is the final version or a work-in-progress.
4.2. Language version
The preview screener’s language version must be presented with Czech or English subtitles (if the original version is not Czech).
5. Selected films
5.1. Submitted film
No film may be withdrawn from the Festival program once it has been officially submitted to the competition. In case this happens, the Submitter will defray the provable costs related to canceling the screening and changing the program.
Films not selected for the main competition sections may be presented in the parallel competition sections or out of competition. The decision is made by the Programming Committee.
5.2. Information embargo
All information concerning the invitation to the Festival program must remain strictly confidential between the Festival management and the Participant until the official announcement is made by the Festival.
5.3. Requested materials
The Submitter will send the film’s promoting material – synopsis, stills, trailer and film material for teaser. In the case of subtitles, the Submitter must provide a timed English subtitle file in .srt format. If available, the Submitter should also provide accompanying materials for the film, such as posters, educational manuals, trivia, interviews, etc.
5.4. Screening format
The Submitter shall provide a DCP of the film in accordance with the DCI standard, as well as an MP4 file, and ensure their delivery entirely at their own expense. The Submitter may upload the files to the festival’s cloud storage at no charge.
The Submitter shall provide timed English subtitles, which must not be embedded in the screening copy of the film.
The festival will provide detailed instructions and technical specifications for the screening files, along with the decision regarding the film's selection for the competition.
5.5. Program schedule
The festival determines the schedule of all screenings, including the order in which the films are shown.
Each film may be screened up to four times as part of the festival program (competition screenings, screenings of the winning films, and festival Echoes).
5.6. Excerpts
For selected films, the organizers are entitled to use excerpts of up to three minutes for promotional purposes.
6. Awards and juries
6.1. Members of the jury
The jury is selected by the Festival management. It is composed of figures from public and cultural life.
No jury member may have participated in the production or commercial distribution of any film presented in the respective competition. All jury members are bound by confidentiality.
The festival director or their representative may attend jury meetings but does not take part in the voting. The jury’s decisions are final.
6.2. Awards
The AWARD FOR THE BEST CZECH OR GERMAN SHORT FILM is awarded to the director of the film and is accompanied by a financial reward of EUR 1,000. The winning film in this section will also receive a prize in the form of distribution in the Czech Republic for a total of EUR 2,000. This is a non-financial award; this amount will be reinvested in the distributor's costs associated with the film's release. The amount includes the preparation of the screening copies, technical production, programming of the film for cinemas, PR and marketing activities in the Czech Republic. The terms and conditions of distribution will be defined in a separate contract to be signed after the prize has been awarded. The rights holder has the right to refuse the prize without compensation.

The jury can grant a special award/recognition which is not financial. The award can go to either film, or a film professional.
7. Dates
7.1. Festival dates
The date of the festival is November 2025 in Prague, Czech Republic. The date may be adjusted by the Festival Director.
7.2. Submission dates
The deadline for submitting a film to the competition is 15 June 2025 inclusive. The deadline may be adjusted by the Festival Director.
8. Conclusion
Submission and participation in the Festival imply acceptance of this Statute. In unclear situations or cases not foreseen in these regulations, the Festival management makes final decisions. All questions arising from the interpretation of this Statute will be resolved by the Festival management.
