The Cary Theater launches BEYOND: The Film Festival, a celebration of the many facets of the art of storytelling through film. BEYOND: The Film Festival will highlight all aspects of filmmaking, featuring a short film competition and screenplay writing competition (length - 30 minutes or less). Each year, the festival will explore a new theme and focus on some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the filmmaking process. The theme for this first year is “Hometown Stories.” The screenwriting competition, also for short films, is based on the same theme and will explore the foundational aspect of filmmaking – the script. A focus of this new four-day event is to bring the community together to experience the best films they’ve never seen.

Hometown Stories have a sense of place. It is where we grew up. Hometown has resonance of things past, things we hold dear, things we have abandoned. No other place we live will ever have the impact of our hometown. Whether the genre is comedy, drama, documentary or farce, the hometown always becomes a character and exerts its influence over the narrative. Hometown stories tell us about our beliefs, biases, dreams and nightmares. What's your Hometown Story?

Why BEYOND? Beyond Ordinary is one of The Cary Theater’s core values – striving and reaching past limits to provide excellent service to the community. This tag line grew from Cary’s common moniker in the late 1700’s - Bradford’s Ordinary. The word BEYOND paints images of excelling, forward motion, striving to grow, and reaching past your current limits. We are excited to invite you to participate as this festival begins and grows BEYOND.

BEYOND: The Film Festival will be held June 14 – 17, 2018 in Cary, NC
