CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

In the midst of the COVID 19 outbreak that took a toll on all of our lives, we want to keep you updated and reassured that we are aiming to go ahead as scheduled with the 6th annual edition of BELIFF festival in August 2021 at the wonderful Lyric Theatre in London. However, in the event the venue will be ordered to remain closed further down the line, we have been making preparations to shift our programme of the official selection online (protected by a paywall) and reach audiences worldwide as a useful and exciting alternative. We will endeavour to keep everyone informed and share another year of unique independent films from the utmost passionate of filmmakers.

Why you should submit to BELIFF:

- GUARANTEE your film will be watched! Every film submitted to our festival receives a brief feedback from an industry professional before due time (of notification date). On top of that we are happy to post on all our social media a brief message promoting any film that has submitted to our festival. The text and visual material must be provided by the submitter.

- Your film will get a chance of being SCREENED at LYRIC CINEMA, with a public of around 100 people. You also get direct feedback from the audience who will rate and offer impressions via our unique and specially designed rating forms.

We are proud to have supported some great independent film makers so far. Some of them won many more film festivals, obtained distribution and already started work on their new projects after attending our competition.

We are so happy to have been receiving so many wonderful feedbacks and reviews (so far only 5 star reviews) and feeling so supported.

We are interested in helping the independent cinema community and we are happy to repost and share any successes or future projects via social media, you just need to get in touch or tag us in your posts and we will re post, like, comment and help as much as we can.

  • We were so pleased to have our short film ABOUT selected by BELIFF, particularly as it is an annual London festival and that is where we made the film. These guys put on a great event despite Covid restricting it to being online. Ioana was our point of contact from the first acceptance email and did a great job communicating with us and making sure everything was in place. They had a good selection of films shown over a week on the Cinenso platform which worked well. My co-writer Theodore Brun and I were also very happy to take part in a live Q&A hosted by Ioanna, with Fella and Stephen whose reviews are below! It seems that was a highlight for all of us - fun, engaging and so encouraging to speak with/hear from other filmmakers and feel a sense of solidarity in our crazy quest to make art through film. Since the festival we have had some interest from streaming platforms, one of which mentioned BELIFF, so its was well worth it from that point of view and clearly a festival that is taken seriously. So thank you Ioanna, Vlad and all the team! I will certainly submit again, hopefully when we have turned ABOUT into a feature...!

BELIEFF was a wonderful FF experience all around. Vlad and Joanna create an exceptionally warm, friendly and encouraging atmosphere
from beginning to end. They were both super responsive and supportive at all times. I was delighted to have my Short included in this FF and very much enjoyed Joanna's lighthearted, yet very thoughtful interview style which set the tone for an intimate and fun ZOOM Q&A

In this new Zoom World of Independent Film Festivals, it’s easy to say: “Well, there’s no connection, no people, no big screen”—all the elements virtual showings cannot offer. What I learned from Vlad and Ioana at BELIFF is that some valuable connections get stronger. How many times do you interact with a Festival’s director? Usually they’re off solving problems, but now, we discover ourselves in a creative new bio-sphere that contains us all. The directors are immediately accessible. All the information is available for any questions asked. I collaborated with Vlad on an article for Film Voice, their festival magazine, and I had a very informed, animated, and interactive interview with Ioana and three other filmmakers. That’s probably more exchange with a festival than I would have gotten had I gone in person. I feel I completely established a relationship with the festival and its directors and it’s a tribute to Vlad and Ioana that they transformed a potentially distant event into a lively, hospitable, and inclusive experience. Hats off to them for cracking the covid code and cutting a path straight to the heart of what a festival is for: to connect, to contact, to create. Not so easy, though they make it seem so. I had a great festival time with them and seeing the films of others. I was there! Really!
