  • Subject: Thank You — Honourable Mention for Gulf of Aden
Dear Mr. Karakasis and the Athens International Digital Film Festival Team,
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the 14th Athens International Digital Film Festival for awarding Gulf of Aden an Honourable Mention (Honourary Distinction) in the Feature-Length Screenplay category.
This recognition truly means a great deal to me.
Athens holds a unique symbolic weight within the story itself — as a city where history, resistance, philosophy, and collective voice converge. To have Gulf of Aden acknowledged by a festival rooted in that cultural and intellectual lineage feels especially meaningful, and deeply aligned with the themes the screenplay explores.
The script is currently in its final stage of refinement, with only minor developments underway as I shape the closing crescendo — not to alter its core, but to ensure the emotional and thematic resolution lands with the clarity and resonance the story demands. Your recognition affirms that the foundation is strong, and that the work is connecting as intended.
Thank you again for the care, consideration, and integrity with which the festival supports writers and storytellers. I am genuinely honoured by this distinction and grateful to be included among this year’s selected works.
    With sincere appreciation,
    Steven James Garry

    Response from festival:

    Dear Mr. Garry,

Thank you very much for your thoughtful and generous message. It was our pleasure to award Gulf of Aden an Honourable Mention in the Feature-Length Screenplay category as part of the 14th Athens International Digital Film Festival.

Your screenplay stood out for its thematic ambition, reflective depth, and the clarity with which it engages with questions of collective memory, conflict, and human resilience. Your reference to Athens as a symbolic space where history and resistance converge resonates strongly with the spirit of our festival and the values we strive to highlight through the work of the filmmakers and writers we present.

We are especially pleased to hear that the script is in its final stage of development, and we wish you every success as you complete it and move forward with its future journey. This distinction was awarded with full confidence in the strength of the work’s artistic foundation and its distinctive narrative voice.

Thank you for sharing your work with us and for contributing, through your writing, to the creative dialogue that our festival seeks to cultivate. We very much look forward to following your future projects.

    With kind regards,

    The Organising Committee
