The Athens International Digital Film Festival (AIDFF) was founded in 2011 with the aim of showcasing the new cinematic language born out of digital technology and innovative forms of storytelling. It is one of the first festivals in Europe to focus exclusively on digital film in all its forms.
AIDFF is now in its 15th edition, enjoying international recognition, with submissions from 35 countries annually, and engaging in strong educational and cultural activities.

Promote independent and innovative cinema that uses digital technology as a means of creation and expression.
Serve as a cultural hub connecting creators from around the world.
Enhance film literacy, especially among emerging filmmakers, students, and professionals.
Cultivate environmental and social awareness through audiovisual language.
🎬 Festival Sections
The festival includes:
Competitive sections (short, medium, and feature-length films; fiction, documentaries, animation, video art, experimental works).
Tributes to filmmakers, countries, and thematic units (e.g. gender, environment, science).
The International Eco & Science Panorama – a specialized section linking art with science and ecology.
The "New Directors" category, highlighting debut filmmakers from around the globe.
Workshops, seminars, and masterclasses – targeting professionals, students, and emerging creators.
👥 Participation & International Reach
Over 1,500 film submissions are received annually from creators worldwide.
Each year, 80–120 films are screened in two to three cinemas in Athens.

AIDFF has received the EFFE Label (2019–2026) from the European Festivals Association, supported by the European Commission.
Honorary awards have been presented to notable figures such as:
Nanos Valaoritis, poet
Kostas Sfikas, director
Greek Directors’ Guild, for its 50 years of contribution
📚 Education & Parallel Activities
Numerous educational workshops and masterclasses are held with renowned professionals from the fields of cinema, screenwriting, and digital arts.
In 2023, the 1st International Screenwriting Festival was launched, aiming to highlight writing as an autonomous artistic practice.
The festival participates in research and educational programs focused on audiovisual literacy and participatory creation.

Promotes equal access to cinema (women, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities).
Approaches cinema as a tool for intercultural communication and social change.
