VAFF’s next advocacy project in the AIM Series, will be a music compilation and a live music event for Asians in Music. Between JUNE 15 to AUGUST 31, 2019, VAFF will be accepting original song submissions by musical artists of Asian heritage from all genres for the AIM Songwriting Competition for its Film & Television Music Sync Compilation, known as “AIM Compilation Album”.

Twelve (12) winning songs will be selected by November 10 and a compilation album will be produced to be sent to Music Supervisors placing songs in film and television projects locally, nationally and internationally. Six (6) of the Twelve (12) selected songs will be selected from artists residing and working in British Columbia and the remaining six (6) winning songs will be open to legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia (excluding Rhode Island and Maine) who self-identifies as East Asian, Southeast Asian or South Asian and is 18 years or older. All songs must have lyrics, be in English and under Five (5) minutes in length. Please read Rules and Regulations for detailed terms and conditions of the Contest.

VAFF and AIM does not guarantee the number of Music Supervisors that will be sent the compilation and can not guarantee that any of these Music Supervisors will listen to the compilation. There will no guarantee that any of the Winning Songs will be selected for use in any Film and Television projects.

Each Author(s)/Artist/Band understands there is NO CASH PRIZE and understands that the “Prize/Award” for this competition is only to be included in the Asians in Music Compilation Album. There is no further award, prize or compensation for having your song selected as a “Winning Song”.

You must be 18+ and who self-identifies as Asian, including East Asian (including People’s Republic of China [incl. Hong Kong], Macao, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan), Southeast Asian (including Myanmar [Burma], Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Timor-Leste) or South Asian (including Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh) to qualify for entry to the contest. All songs, music and lyrics must be original compositions and be credited solely as the work of the author(s) listed in the entry form. Entries in violation of any copy right laws, trademarks, intellectual property rights or basic ethical standards of amateur or professional songwriting will be disqualified immediately and without notice. In all cases, All song submissions must be in English and include lyrics. Songs must not have profanity, sexually explicit, hate or offensive lyrics or messages. The Vancouver Asian Film Festival and AIM the sole discretion to determine if any song submission contravenes any of the requirements outlined in the Official Rules. These song submissions that has been determined to be ineligible will be invalidated and entry fee will not be reimbursed.

By submitting your song and entering the Contest, you:
Declare you have read, agree to and have complied with you have agreed to the Official Rules downloadable on http://vaff.org/aim. Declare you meet all criteria to enter the Contest and to accept and participate in the prize (if awarded).

The Vancouver Asian Film Festival and ASIANS IN MUSIC Songwriting Competition shall in no way be held liable for any such legal action that results from the submission of unlawful or stolen submissions.

Do not submit with your entry any additional marketing material. This includes album art, testimonials, celebrity endorsements, online links or any other material attempting to back your entry with anything other than the quality of the songwriting.

Once materials are submitted, no revisions or alterations to the entry will be allowed or accepted. Entrants may submit multiple songs under the following conditions: Each song must be submitted with its own separate registration form and entry fee.

All author(s)s of any song submitted must be listed in the entry process. Up to four (4) author(s)s may be listed with only a single-entry fee required. The primary contact should be the spokesperson for the group and should be the only person who completes the entry form information. All other decisions of division of cash and rewards are left to the discretion of the individual contestants and their agreements among themselves.

Songs uploaded through the online submission system must be in one of the following formats: MP3, WAV. All lyrics must be uploaded in one of the following file types: .pdf, .txt, .rtf.

Songs entries or contestants that have current or pending contracts placed on them at the time of their submission cannot be entered.

We DO NOT own the rights to any submitted material. In all cases, all rights to submitted songs and lyrics are retained by their original author(s)(s). The Vancouver Asian Film Festival and ASIANS IN MUSIC reserves the right to use or reproduce any submission for promotional and educational purposes.

All Contestants grant the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) and ASIANS IN MUSIC Songwriting Competition the right to include any submission in a promotional manner on website(s) associated with VAFF or AIM for marketing purposes only.

It is acknowledged that similar beats, notes, sounds, lyrics or other song elements may be demonstrated in more than one submission and/or in current developments by the contest Judges. Any overlap of these or similar elements do not entitle any entrant to any compensation or credit.

VAFF Executives and Board members are ineligible to participate in this contest. Any such submission will be immediately invalidated. In addition, this contest is VOID WHERE PROHIBITED or restricted by any Federal, Provincial or Local law.

VAFF and ASIANS IN MUSIC Songwriting Competition holds the right to extend entry cut-off dates and/or change submission fees. Individual entries fees are final upon registration and payment and will not be altered for that submission.

Winners will be announced VAFF website. VAFF and AIM will make no effort to inform non-winners of contest results through any direct means. Winners will be informed directly through email. There ARE NO CASH PRIZES. Once the submission process is completed and the entry is finalized there are no refunds for the entry fee.

By entering your work to the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and AIM Songwriting Contest, your agree to indemnify and hold us, our employees, officers, agents, shareholders, affiliates, and partners harmless from any and all claims, liability, loss or damage arising out of submitting your project into consideration and or competition to the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and AIM Songwriting Contest.

No fee waivers or discounts will be given. Any requests for fee waivers through our email will be ignored.
