TOWARDS AN EMOTIONAL ARCHITECTURE
Since its origins, cinema has been intricately tied to architecture, forming the eternal encounter of space and time on the screen, activating our emotions.
Both on-screen and off-screen, architecture has the power to evoke memories, conceal stories, or connect people with their environment in emotionally significant ways.
Today, we construct emotional memories within the space-time that cinema provides us, extending beyond it to traverse realities. Whether navigating the metaverse, crossing boundaries, or inventing parallel realities, we manage to permeate our memories, interacting with individuals located geographically at antipodes or gathered in a fiction of reality, fictionalized within a video game. Today, more than ever, we inhabit alternate realities and experience alternate emotions. This edition of ArqFilmFest is an invitation to evoke such emotions.

About The Festival
ARQFILMFEST │ Architecture Film Festival Santiago – Chile
Since its inception, cinema has shared a symbiotic relationship with architecture, with cities serving as early inspirations and subjects for the silver screen. As cinema evolved, it expanded its horizons to depict architectural visions, offering glimpses of futuristic cities and ancient structures that exist solely within the realm of fiction, contributing significantly to cinematic narratives. Moreover, cinema serves as a medium for documenting and analyzing urban landscapes and life.
At ArqFilmFest, the Festival de Cine y Arquitectura de Santiago, we recognize cinema as a valuable ally in the creation and visualization of new architectural concepts and urban environments. Cinema provides boundless opportunities for our profession's development. ArqFilmFest, organized by a dedicated collective, aims to underscore the importance of architecture and foster discussions about urban spaces, with a focus on the Latin American context. We invite our audience to engage actively in roundtable discussions, seminars, talks, production workshops, and more. Previous editions of the festival have been hosted in Chilean and international cities, including Lisbon (Portugal), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Puebla and Mexico City (Mexico), Venice and Milan (Italy), spanning from 2012 to 2023.
ArqFilmFest is a biennial event that has brought together enthusiasts eager to explore the intersection of cinema, architecture, and urban life since its inaugural edition in 2012. Over its five editions (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2020), the festival has served as a platform for convergence, dissemination, and research, focusing on various aspects arising from the fusion of architecture and cinema, with the city as its central theme, urban stage, and architectural canvas.
In Santiago, the capital city of Chile, ArqFilmFest has been hosted in cultural centers, museums, universities, auditoriums, and outdoor venues, embracing the city both as subject matter and as a stage. To date, the festival has welcomed over 5000 attendees and showcased approximately 200 films from 40 different countries, steadfast in its mission to showcase contemporary Chilean creations, both architectural and cinematic.
