Alicia Michele Benjamin, born in Washington , D.C., and raised in Wilmington, Del., is a writer, editor and filmmaker. She made her first short film, "Dreams Float Around Us" after receiving a micro grant from the Charlotte Black Film Festival.
Alicia Michele Benjamin recently directed/produced the short documentary “Dreams Float Around Us," an official selection of the 2025 Charlotte Black Film Festival. Alicia also has extensive experience in the theater and has acted in productions in several cities on the East Coast and in the Southeast. She studied screenwriting, acting and playwriting (as a graduate student) at Hunter College in New York. She also studied directing for the theater at Temple University in Philadelphia. With a degree in journalism from the University of Maryland at College Park, Alicia also has several years of experience in journalism as a writer and editor. She lives in Charlotte with her daughter Gigi.
