Aguilar Film Festivals is one of the most prestigious and distinguished short film festivals in Spain, with more than 30 editions behind it, and is held every December in the town of Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia). It is characterized by the search for new cinematographic forms, new stories and new talents from all corners of the world. It is also a pioneer festival when it comes to offering all the short films in the International Competition an economic rate for their selection.

In addition to the competitive sections, retrospectives and special sessions that make up its film programming (including MiniAguilar, a festival within the festival aimed at Young Audiences), the festival organizes various industry activities and awards two annual honorary awards to two respected personalities from the Spanish cinema. Among the winners of this award are Ernesto Alterio, Javier Fesser, Gracia Querejeta, Santiago Segura and Pedro Almodóvar.

Aguilar Film Festival also collaborates with the Spanish Film Academy, being one of the qualifying festivals for the Goya Awards.

OFFICIAL SELECTION

All the films selected for the Official Selection (International Competition) get 200 euros as Selection fee.

The International Jury of the Official Section will award the following prizes:

Regulations 33 Aguilar Film Festival 2021
Aguilar de Campoo

1. General Rules and Short Films Sections
Open call for the 33rd edition of the Aguilar Film Festival (FICA 2021) from the 3rd to the 12th of December of 2021

The participation is open to all national and international short films produced and realized from January 1st 2019.

The short film length should not be longer than 35 minutes (including credits).

The festival is open to any short films genres (fiction, animation, documental, experimental), production techniques, forms and budgets.

Short films previously submitted to other editions of the festival will not be considered.

Short films will be submitted by their owners or representatives.

The owners or representatives must have obtained necessary permissions for the inclusion of copyrighted music and/or images within the short films. The applicant must have all rights necessary for the screening of the submitted short film.

2. Online Submission and Fees
The submissions will be accepted from the March 1st to September 15th, 2021

The official platforms to apply for Aguilar Film Festival 2021 are:

The inscription fee (to be paid by participants):

- Regular Period: from March 1st to August 16th 2021: 3 €

Extended Period: from August 17th to September 15th 2021: 6 €

The copy facilited by participants through the official platforms will be in original version. In case the original language of any dialogue or any text featured in the short film is not Spanish, the copy must be subtitled in Spanish or English.

3. Selection
The Selection Comittee will be composed of professionals from the audiovisual arts. They will be in charge of selecting the short films to compete in the different sections of the festival.

Applicants will be notified via e-mail about the selection of their films.

If selected, the festival may contact the representative of the film to request further materials. The screening copies of all selected films, will be sent on time and manner stipulated in this regulation.

The screening format will be digital, with the next technical characteristics:
Container: .mov / mepg 4 H264 o Apple ProRess 442
Resolution: Full HD (1920x1080)
Audio: Stereo AAC
Bitrate: up to 20.000 kbps

All submitted short films will be in original version. If the original language is not Spanish, it will be mandatory to send Spanish or English subtitles (preferably in .srt format) or dialogue list in English.
Short films selected may be screened privately to the jury or to accredited guests.

Aguilar Film Festival 2021 will be held with face-to-face screenings and also with online broadcasting.

The selected films will be screened at the times and places that appear in the catalog and on the festival's official website (www.aguilarfilmfestival.com).

By accepting participation in the festival, both physical screenings and online broadcasting on the aforementioned platforms are authorized from the moment of their registration in the Festival. This online broadcast will be limited to the dates on which the festival takes place and will be accessible only fromSpanish territory through geolocation.

With the registration of a work and the consequent acceptance of these rules, the works that are selected to participate in competitive sections give the Festival the right to screen said works - always for exclusively cultural and non-commercial purposes - throughout the year and a half. following the celebration of the Festival in the different extraordinary activities that are occasionally held outside the festival dates, the purpose of which is to promote the festival.

In any case, these possible screenings will always be notified to the person who owns the work and will always be free to the public.

4. Sections
The 33rd Aguilar Film Festival will have the following sections:

4.1. OFFICIAL SECTION
In the Official Section, International and Spanish* short films concur in equal conditions, and all of them have options to win the Official Section Awards.

Any selected filmmaker will be offered at least of one night’s of accommodation in a single room to attend the screening of its film.

The Official Section will count with its own and specific International Jury, that will award the corresponding prizes independently to other sections.

* Spanish short films: Spanish productions, co-productions where the Spanish participation is over 40% and those works directed by filmmakers of Spanish nationality, regardless they have been produced by other countries.

4.2. COUNTRYSIDE COMPETITION
This section collects Spanish and international works with a theme related to rural areas, life in the country, ethnography and tradition, the relationship between the individual or the group with the territory and the depopulation of peripheral areas.

The Countryside Competition has its own and exclusive Jury that will grant the corresponding prizes independently to the rest of the sections.

4.3. CASTILLA Y LEON COMPETITION
The festival will accept submission for this section to all the works that meet at least one of the following requirements:

Have been directed or produced by a person born in Castilla y Leon.
Have been shot part (substancial part) or totally in Castilla y Leon.
Have been produced by a production company based in Castilla y Leon.
Have been directed or produced by a person who lives or had lived during 5 consecutive years, or 7 if are not consecutive, in Castilla y Leon.

The short films selected from other sections (Official Section, Countryside Competition and MiniAguilar) that meet at least one of the previous requirements, also will be able to get this award.

At the submissions moment, the participants should remark that the short film have some of the requirements to participate in this section (Castilla y Leon Award). Also they will have to acreditate this condition, if the organization ask for it.

Castilla y Leon will count with its own and specific Jury, that will award the corresponding prizes independently to other sections.

4.4. MINIAGUILAR
Parallel to Aguilar Film Festival, there is a Short Film Competition for Young Audiences 2021(MiniAguilar)

The general admission requirements are the same as for works in the other sections and must be registered in the corresponding section (MINIAGUILAR) within the aforementioned platforms, with the rates established above. The only additional requirement is that, to participate in this competition, the works must be suitable for children and young audiences.

Three different competitions will be available at MINIAGUILAR for international and national works:

Short Films for viewers aged 0+
Short Films for viewers aged 3+
Short Films for viewers aged 7+

MINIFICA will count with its own and specific Jury, that will award the corresponding prizes independently to other sections.

4.5. SPANISH SHOWROOM COMPETITION
Spanish Showroom is about Spanish regional distribution catalogs, the ICAA annual catalog, Spanish film schools and professional distributors. This section is an unbeatable showcase of the most recent Spanish works.

4.6. PARALLEL SECTIONS
The Aguilar Film Festival 2021 completes its programming with a series of parallel and informative sections out of competition.

5. Awards and Selection Fee
Selection payment: All works, national and international, selected in the following competitive sections will receive the amount of 200 euros (including taxes) as Seletion Fee.

Selection fee is not cumulative. If a short film is selected in more than one competition, it will receive the payment for the highest amount.

The works selected in the De Campo Section, Spanish Showroom and MiniAguilar will compete for the awards indicated below. In the case of any work is selected in MiniAguilar and other competition/s, it will be able to opt for the MiniAguilar Award, in addition to the payment for selection of the category with the highest economic amount.

The festival will appreciate the attendance and participation in the screening session of the selected work from the person or persons directly related to the short film (direction, cast, production, etc.).

6. Award for the Best Spanish Short Film and shortlist for the Goya Awards

Aguilar Film Festival, in collaboration with the Spanish Short Film Coordinator Association, the New Filmmakers Platform (PNR) and the Short Film Industry Association (AIC), awards the Best Spanish Short Film Award, to which Spanish productions included within the Official Section.

The jury for this award will be made up of three people appointed by the aforementioned associations (one representative per association).

Aguilar Film Festival collaborates with the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in preselecting the best short films for the Goya Awards.

The winner for the Best Spanish Short Film Award in the Official Competition will be able to be eligible as a final candidate providing it complies with the requirements of the Goya Regulations: www.academiadecine.com

In addition, the winner of this award will also obtain a free annual subscription to the three mentioned associations.

7. Acceptance of the regulations and data protection
Participation in this festival entalis the acceptance of the current regulations. All doubts from the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be solved by the Aguilar Film Festival.

The organization reserves, exceptionally, the right to admit works that do not meet some of the criteria detailed above.

Personal details provided by festival participants will be processed and incorporated into the relevant festival organizers data files, as dictated by Spanish data protection law “ Ley Orgánica 15/1999, de 13 de diciembre, de Protección de Datos de Carácter Personal (LOPD)”.
