I had an exceptional time participating in the Afrofuturist Femmes Film Festival! The communication was clear and consistent at all times and I was even able to attend the festival in person in Detroit! I really enjoyed meeting everyone. MacKenzie Galloway who runs the festival is amazing and a force to be reckoned with! I was so happy to have my film screened alongside other films made by talented directors. I would absolutely recommend this festival!

    Response from festival:

Thank you! We loved having you all the way from Miami <3.

  • Detroit native MacKenzie Galloway and festival director, a phenomenal doctoral student at Howard University with an impressive academic trajectory including advanced degrees in screenwriting/filmmaking, French communication media, broadcast journalism and cultural anthropology, combined her rich academic trajectory and rigor, professional expertise and love for Detroit to create a festival program that celebrates the futures that cinema inspires us to build.

One of my very favorite festival highlights was its thoughtful integration of the powerful panel discussion “Reclaiming Our Futures Through Afrofuturism.” This conversation brought together some of Detroit’s most inspirational and forward-looking voices, sharing perspectives that expanded the artistic and political dimensions of the event. It was wonderful to exchange with and learn from the young attendees and the amazing festival team dedicated to changing Detroit’s artistic landscape into a place of creativity and transformative conversations by Afrofuturist women’s voices. A must attend event for anyone interested in visionary cinema.
