Do you remember going to the movies? The popcorn, the endless trailers, the red cushions that you sink into in that moment when you are completely transported…
That nostalgia for the cinema has driven a new collaboration between FLATS and the Houston Cinema Arts Society. We’re showcasing Texas filmmakers through the lens of the analog. The “real” quality of celluloid is resurging in major motion pictures, and we want to shine a spotlight on the traditional formats that started the magic of movies.

We hope this year’s showcase is just the beginning – and that it grows as the community of Texas artists rediscovers an enthusiasm for analog film. Join us as this celebration of creative storytelling develops…the old-fashioned way!

Selected Films will receive a $50 award honoraria, as well as a free industry pass to the 2024 Houston Cinema Arts Festival, which takes place in November.

A really great night of film from Texas filmmakers at a historic Houston Movie Theater venue, with an awesome photography exhibit of local photographers work, also shot on film. Sold out screening and a building crowd for the second show about a hour later. Very involved and helpful organizers and appreciative and supportive vibe all around. Notifications came a few days or a week later than scheduled but otherwise everything was just as described. Hope they decide to continue the festival in the future.
