This is the first year of the International A&E, Accessibility & Environment Film Festival & Discussion Forum taking place in Bristol, UK during the 22nd-23rd of June, 2024.
The event is supported by the School of Activism at The Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft.

Films will focus on Accessibility and Inclusion, Disability, Health and the Environment.
Open Discussions will raise issues on:

How does Access define Ability? What are your Personal Testimonies?
How does Society and the Provision of Access define Disability?
Where do Personal & Social issues about Health & the Environment meet?
How does the Environmental Crisis enforces Economic Migration and impacts on the Humanitarian Crisis?
The Environmental Emergency impacts our daily lives, from the water we drink, to the energy we use, from the air we breathe to our mental health. What can we do about it?

This is a disabled-led project. In our awards, we use the term disabled-led for films made by a disabled person or a group with a disabled majority input. We do this to support their work in order for it to continue.

You do not have to identify with the term disabled to submit your film.

We encourage film submissions from people who identify as disabled and chronically ill, people living with an autoimmune disease without a cure, people living with long-term mental health conditions, people who face barriers due to any type of impairment they experience in terms of their access and participation to the environment that surrounds them and have access needs, neurodivergent, D/deaf and people who became clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19.

We are committed to gender equality, inclusion & diversity and will ensure equal representation through our film selection and our voluntary festival crew & judging board.

Reclaim Our Social Space. Raise Awareness.
Come and watch films from around the world, take part in discussion, make positive impact.
Join us.

We have two main programmes for film submission:

The short film and moving image competition programme (for films up to 30’).
The featured programme for the promotion of feature films

In our international film competition programme we invite both short film documentaries & experimental documentaries, experimental non-linear narrative/ moving image, animation and comedy, that promote the issues raised and highlight personal testimonies of empowerment.

We have 8 award categories for short film submission:

Best A&E FF feature Documentary.
Best A&E FF short film documentary.
Best A&E FF experimental short documentary
Best Experimental short film/ moving image A&E FF award.
Best Animated short film A&E FF award.
Best Comedy A&E FF award.
Best Young filmmaker short film A&E FF award.

All films selected should be produced after January the 1st, 2020.
The deadline for submissions is 20 April 2024.

All films will be screened with subtitles.
By submitting you confirm that you will make a subtitled version of the film available for screening WITH SUBTITLES BURNED IN. We encourage descriptive subtitles.

For disabled-led film submissions the details should identify the capacity in which disabled persons were involved in the film.

Film Freeway is the exclusive method of submission.
