ALT_CTL BIPOC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is a Blerd City project that began in 2020 as part of the Blerd City Con. It has grown into its own entity, which focuses solely on BIPOC filmmakers with the mission to advance, cultivate and support BIPOC filmmakers.

We aim to celebrate the narrative storytelling with the empowered gaze of BIPOC creators offering an alternative representation of the filmatic experience.

We are seeking films from the cultural intersectionality and artistic visionaries from New York City, the United States, and International regions of the world.

ALT_CTL is a film festival exclusively showcasing creative works of the BIPOC community in Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Afrofuturism, Animation, Supernatural and Social Impact.

We are an inclusive film festival embracing racial diversity, women equality, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, transgender and non-binary community members.

Awards and Prizes
ALT_CTL BIPOC FILM FESTIVAL honors films and filmmakers who compete across various categories such as Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Afrofuturism, Animation, Supernatural and Social Impact. . Trophies and/or certificates will be awarded to the best in various categories. (You do not need to submit your film more than once as we will place it in the category that we feel best for programming.)

Rules & Terms
By submitting your project, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to all of the following rules and terms. Please thoroughly read the following before submitting your film:

ALT_CTL BIPOC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (“ALT_CTL” or the “Festival”)

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

1. Projects submitted must be by a writer, director, and/or producer who is a person of color (including but not limited to Black, African-American, Latino, East Asian, South Asian, Indigenious, and Pacific Islander) and/or feature people of color in the cast of the story.

2. Submissions must be accompanied by the applicable submission fee PER ENTRY and a completed FilmFreeway online entry form.

3. Please provide English subtitling if your film is in another language at the time of submission.

4. Works in progress may be submitted, as long as the final version is shared prior to the festival and available for screening during the Festival

5. Films that have screened and or have received awards at other festivals can be submitted provided they adhere to all rules and regulations of ATL_CTL.

6. ALT_CTL BIPOC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL does not maintain ownership of any film submitted but does have the legal right to use images and as much as 30 seconds of footage for current and future festival promotional materials.

7. Award winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony at the end of the festival.

8. Filmmakers will be notified whether or not their film has been accepted to ALT_CTL no later than AUGUST 26th, 2022.

NOTE TO ALL FILMMAKERS: ALT_CTL BIPOC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL screens films as digital files during the Festival and does NOT screen films on Blu- Ray, HD-CAM, or DCP.

PROJECT SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
> There is no limit to the number of submissions per submitter, provided they are separate submissions and the required submission fee is paid for each.
> All submissions must be uploaded as an online screener by the deadline of AUGUST 13, 2022.
> You must have your festival acceptance and release paperwork completed by August 16, 2022, and your project information and assets (photos, trailer, etc.) must be submitted no later than August18, 2022, if accepted as an official selection.

PROJECT SUBMISSION FEES:
Your submission will not be considered until the submission fee is paid in full via credit card. Submission fees will not be returned and are non-refundable.

ALT_CTL BIPOC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL reserves the right in its sole discretion to reject or disqualify any ineligible entries, without a refund.

LEGALITY DISCLAIMER:

The filmmaker releases ATL_CTL BIPOC FILM FESTIVAL from any and all liability for damages or destruction of the entered film file. The filmmaker understands that the programmed material will be retained in a secure facility by the festival, and every effort will be taken to protect and control the viewing of this film. The festival assumes no liability whatsoever for theft, copyright violations or piracy of the entry.

The Filmmaker accepts and understands that the festival will do everything possible to present the film in the best possible manner but the festival is not responsible for any malfunctions during screenings. All entries are carefully pre-screened prior to the public showing to assure that the films are in working order. ATL_CTL assumes no responsibility for any technical difficulties in the presentation of a film at the actual event.

It is the sole responsibility of the filmmaker to obtain the legal use of any and all copyrighted material presented in a film before submitting to a festival. Again, ATL_CTL BIPOC FILM FESTIVAL is not liable should a filmmaker fail to do so.

Promotional items and/or any programming materials will not be returned. All shipping costs are the sole responsibility of the sender.

BY SUBMITTING THE MATERIAL, I/WE HEREBY AGREE TO DEFEND ATL_CTL BIPOC FILM FESTIVAL, ITS EMPLOYEES, DIRECTORS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND AFFILIATES FROM ALL LIABILITY, CLAIMS, AND DAMAGES IN CONNECTION WITH THE SUBMISSION AND FROM ANY FEES AND EXPENSES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES, THAT ANY OF THEM MAY INCUR IN CONNECTION THEREWITH.
