Rules & Terms

The Austin Asian American Film Festival seeks to screen films that meet any of the following criteria:

-Films written, directed, and/or produced by Asian or Asian American filmmakers, made inside or outside the United States.

-Films featuring Asian or Asian American actors or subjects.

-Films that engage with the lives and experiences of Asian or Asian American people and communities, inside or outside Asia.

For these purposes, Asia is defined broadly, including the countries of East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Western Asia.

The 16th Austin Asian American Film Festival will be held from June 26–30, 2024 at AFS Cinema. All finalized works must be completed and shipped at least one month prior to the screening date. This contract is binding and you will be held responsible for the information in your submission.

    AAAFF is one of the best film festivals I have ever attended. Literally everyone at the festival treated us filmmakers with tremendous care, kindness, and appreciation. Their hospitality and curation were top-notched; communication, management and event organization were perfectly executed. I had the opportunity to watch many great movies and spend quality time networking with the local Asian American community. It truly felt like a family.

    What’s most important, though, is their genuine passion for cinema. You can sense the thought and care that the organizers and programmers put into every decision they made. I want to express my gratitude to Hanna and her entire team for making it all happen! AAAFF is a delightful and unique film festival, and I cherished every minute I spent there.

    I look forward to submitting my future films to AAAFF and hope to experience it again. I highly recommend fellow filmmakers to submit their work to this outstanding festival!

    It was such a special time at AAAFF - very well organized, hospitable, and fun! The staff were so friendly and it was wonderful getting to know them. The events were awesome - from the filmmakers lounge, late-night karaoke, the closing-night hangout, and more! They helped grab us a hotel, shuttle us to events off the theater area, and more. Would definitely come back!
