Submission Eligibility To 1261Film Festival:
Films or videos that focus on subject matters about the culture and experiences of the Caribbean or the African diaspora.
Films should:
- Depict the multiculturalism and diversity of the Caribbean and African Diaspora.
- Rooted in cultural, political, and social elements relatable to and representing the culture
and experiences of the Caribbean and African diaspora globally.
FILMS ACCEPTED:
- Features/Medium length - docs/narratives over 40 minutes
- Shorts - docs/narratives under 40 minutes.
- Student Films
Films can be any genre: children, drama, comedy, horror, adventure, animation, romance, environmental, fiction, experimental, new media, etc.
Submissions Rules:
- Films are accepted only via FilmFreeway.
- Submission must include
- Film Synopsis
- Credit sheet
- Running time & format, film promo HD image/poster.
- Films must be in English or have English subtitles.
- Films must not exceed the above submission time requirements in specific categories.
- Films accepted for exhibition may be screened to audiences in full length one or multiple
times during the 1261FF23.
- 1261FF will use the Film trailer/ clip (up to 60 seconds in length) for promotion before,
during, and after the Festival.
Online Submissions:
- Create an account with FilmFreeway (free to filmmakers).
- A submission fee is required. Select the appropriate category and "Submit Your Film."
- Video link passwords must remain active until October 31, 2023. (If you change the
password to your link before October 31, 2023, you must send a new valid password by
email to submissions@g1261fillmfestival.com.)
- All films submitted to 1261FF23 are previewed from start to finish by at least one
member of the 1261FF23 programming staff for eligibility to screen at 1261FF23.
Notification of Film Acceptance:
- Filmmakers will receive acceptance notifications via email to the contact person who
submitted the film. Please notify us at submissions@1261filmfestial.com
immediately if there are any changes.
- Acceptance notification will be a "roll-out" process; there is no significance to the order in which the notification is issued.
- Selected films will upload on the 1261FF website by approximately October 1, 2023.
- Films not selected will be notified via email.
- All preview copies will be added to 1261FF's archives for consideration in our year-round
programming unless the filmmaker indicates in writing that they do not wish it so.

The filmmaker, Agent, and Manager (collectively the "Applicant") agree that Applicant has proper clearances - licenses, royalties, release forms, permits- required to submit their film to 12°N, 61°W Film Festival for exhibition at the 1261FF23 edition. Neither the 12°N, 61°W Film Festival nor any of the 1261FF venues, partners, or agents will not be held liable for any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, or royalty infringement related to the work submitted.
Applicant grants 1261FF the non-exclusive rights to use:
* The trailer or part(s) of the film (up to 60 seconds total for all promotional purposes;
* Film stills (up to 3 stills) supplied by the filmmaker or screen grabs from the film.
* Filmmaker's biographical materials (name, biography, and photographic likeness) on the 1261 Film Festival website or for other promotional purposes.
* Applicant agrees to allow 1261FF to supply copies of the film trailer to journalists under a non-publication / non-distribution agreement; to show the trailer at accredited press screenings.
* To exhibited their films either online or in-person during the 1261FF23 edition.
The 12°N, 61°W Film Festival reserves the right to determine the eligibility of the submissions to be screened at the Festival, the appropriate venues and time slots for the screening of films, and to use of excerpts of the movie for publicity purposes.
