Xiona Li is a Chinese transfemme filmmaker and researcher based between London and Beijing. Working across documentary, experimental media, AI-generated imagery, and cross-cultural storytelling, her practice explores gender, identity, queer subjectivity, and the invisible emotional and social structures that shape lived experience.
A graduate of the MA Documentary Film program at the University of the Arts London (Distinction, 2025) and the BA Film, Television & Digital Production at Royal Holloway (First Class Honours, 2021), Xiona’s work has screened internationally, including at Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Make News Showcase (NYC), YOUKI (Austria), and UNESCO-affiliated events.
Her films blend journalistic research with experimental visual language—often using AI, mannequins, and maze-like architectures to protect vulnerable contributors and evoke queer futurist aesthetics.
