You are never too old to make a film
Based in England, originally from Former Yugoslavia, Vesna Marich is an award winning documentary filmmaker whose work explores themes and topics from the contemporary world which are thought provoking and socially engaged. Vesna started her career working for TV Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the late seventies. She has directed around 60 documentaries, documentary series, docudramas, educational programmes, children and live entertaining TV programmes. She doesn't know the exact number of the documentaries and other TV programmes that she had made because of the Bosnian war which started in 1992, stopped her career in TV media and changed her life completely. Her new life started in London in a different setting. From working constantly to not working at all to, finally, starting working in films again- the process was long, but the idea of giving up never crossed her mind. At the beginning of the new millennium Vesna started directing a range of films about Bosnians living abroad after they were forced to flee Bosnia during the war- as was she.
Vesna is interested in telling stories of the past too and has produced short films about Camden, the municipality in London where she lives. In the last couple of years her focus has been on the lives of physically disabled people and children and of those with learning disabilities, both in London and in Bosnia Herzegovina. Vesna wants to bring attention to amazing people who, against all odds, their age, illness or disability are still achieving their goals when they set their mind to it and are socially engaged and thriving in the community which has only to gain from their involvement.
Vesna has been selected to screen internationally at film festivals as well as a range of tours. For Vesna, her movies are tools for communicating amazing stories to a broader audience, as well as an educational tool. To make people feel and think, and to bring change to society as a result of that, would be an ultimate goal for Vesna.
