Founded in 2014 and based in Miami, Florida, Third Horizon is dedicated to developing, producing, exhibiting and distributing films from the Caribbean and its diasporas. Third Horizon’s flagship initiative, Third Horizon Film Festival (THFF), is an annual celebration of cinema from the Caribbean, its diaspora and beyond. In particular, THFF seeks to highlight work by filmmakers and artists who are interested in both the aesthetic and political dimensions of cinema, and who seek to go beyond imitative approaches to cinematic form, exploring radical and resourceful ways of representing the unique complexity of the Caribbean experience.

The seventh edition of THFF returns to Miami, Florida from April 11 - 14, 2024, with additional virtual presentations for a global audience.

THFF is proudly supported by Knight Foundation and JustFilms / Ford Foundation.

THFF aims to celebrate and empower filmmakers from the Caribbean and its diaspora, as well as filmmakers whose work centers the Caribbean experience. Therefore, it only accepts submissions from Caribbean and diaspora filmmakers, and filmmakers whose work has the Caribbean or its diaspora as its subject. The Festival accepts submissions of any and all forms, genres and lengths.

THFF knows that the financial burden on a filmmaker to submit their film to festivals continues to increase. We have therefore made the decision this year to remove submissions fees, and invite you to submit your film to THFF24 free of charge. Similarly, we are committed to paying all filmmakers and artists for showing their work. The following is our schedule of screening fees:

Features (over 60 minutes in length): US$400 each
Medium-length films (between 30 and 60 minutes): US$250
Short films (up to 30 minutes): US$200 each

Please also note:

1. We favor films that have not screened publicly before January 1, 2023.
3. Priority is given to Florida premieres.
4. Submission to THFF does not guarantee selection and screening.
5. If you have any queries about the submissions process, please email submissions@thirdhorizon.net
NOTE: This email is for queries only. All submissions must be made via FilmFreeway.

Third Horizon is like long distance relatives I've always known about without having met them once yet. Their commitment and consistant work as a filmmaking collective set high standards when it comes to bridging gaps among Caribbean stories and empowering independent voices from the region. Long live Third Horizon !
