Şükrü Gürsoy (born 1980, Istanbul) is a director, cinematographer, and storyteller who blends fiction, documentary, and experimental aesthetics. After graduating from Beykent University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Cinema, he began his career in 2005 and since then has directed numerous short films, documentaries, commercials, and corporate productions.
Over the course of nearly two decades, he has developed a distinctive cinematic language that combines visual precision with emotional intensity. His work often focuses on themes of memory, conscience, history, and the hidden stories of ordinary lives. His short films have been screened at national and international festivals, while his documentaries concentrate on cultural heritage, mythology, and underwater history. He has directed five short films, five documentaries, various music videos, and countless commercial projects.
His most recent short film Buried (Gömü, 2025) addresses themes of betrayal, remorse, and conscience with a minimalist cinematic approach and is currently continuing its international festival journey. Gürsoy is also working on his first feature film, LEŞ, a psychological drama that explores the fragile dynamics of ordinary lives and builds a powerful narrative around human weakness. Other projects include The Last Roll (Son Tekli), a darkly comic road movie inspired by a true story, and Varol, a Mediterranean-set drama about longing, family ties, and lost connections.
In the field of documentary, Gürsoy has built a strong filmography. His docuseries MAI investigates shipwrecks in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, combining dramatization, animation, and underwater cinematography. His documentary KAHİN, narrated by acclaimed Turkish actor Uğur Polat, explores the mythology and history of Patara.
