Recognizes exceptional vision, leadership, and artistic achievement in directing.

Rules & Terms

GENERAL AGREEMENT OF PARTICIPATION

By submitting my film to the Russian Film Festival South Africa International, I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and accepted the official rules and regulations of the festival. I agree to provide any additional information or materials required in line with these regulations. I authorize the Russian Film Festival South Africa International to screen my film, and if selected, I confirm that a final exhibition copy will be delivered in the required DCP format no later than 3 March 2026 for presentation at the 2026 festival.

I certify that I hold all necessary rights for the submission of this film/video to the Russian Film Festival South Africa International, and that all rights and clearances have been obtained. This film is not subject to any litigation, nor is it threatened by any litigation. I hold the Russian Film Festival South Africa International harmless from any damage to, or loss of, materials en route to, from, or while at the festival. I assume all legal responsibilities related to this submission.

By agreeing to these terms, I grant the Russian Film Festival South Africa International the right to use excerpts from the submitted film, including stills and trailers, for publicity and marketing purposes for the 2026 festival and for other non-commercial uses related to the promotion of the festival. I also agree to indemnify the Russian Film Festival South Africa International in the event that these rights have not been properly secured.

RULES & TERMS FOR SUBMITTING FILMS TO RUSSIAN FILM FESTIVAL SOUTH AFRICA INTERNATIONAL

The Russian Film Festival South Africa International is seeking independent feature-length and short films from around the world, in any genre. Our Standard Festival Participation Agreement (Terms and Conditions), which all submitted films are required to follow, is outlined below:

SUBMISSION FEE
All submissions through FilmFreeway must be paid via the FilmFreeway payment system. The submission fee is non-refundable.

FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
All film submissions must be in DCP format. Do not submit if your film is not in DCP format.
Trailers do not need to be in DCP format but must be provided.
Posters must be submitted in PDF format.
DCPs can be sent via online platforms such as Google Drive or other file-sharing services.

SUBMISSION ELIGIBILITY
All films must be completed before 28 February 2026.
Films must be submitted via FilmFreeway.
All films not in English must include subtitles.
Submissions must include confirmation that the submitting party holds all necessary rights and permissions for all content used in the film, including music, images, and footage.
Films must adhere to specified length requirements for feature films, short films, or documentaries.
All films must include an appropriate age rating.

PREMIERE STATUS
All films must not have been screened publicly in South Africa prior to the festival dates.

NOTIFICATIONS
The Russian Film Festival South Africa International aims to complete all selection procedures by 3 March 2026. After this date, all submitting parties will be informed in writing whether their film has been selected.

SELECTION OF FILMS
Submissions are reviewed based on the quality of narrative, production values, and independent nature of the production.

SCHEDULING
Screenings are scheduled at the discretion of the Russian Film Festival South Africa International. While every effort will be made to adhere to the published schedule, the festival reserves the right to make changes at any time. The festival will not be liable for any costs incurred due to changes in scheduling.

Once a film is selected, it cannot be withdrawn from the festival program.
