Iraqi Kurdish film maker Philip Jamal Rachid was born in 1978, Sofia, Bulgaria and raised in Amsterdam.
He is a self taught writer and director.
His first recognition came when he shot a short film on a Flip cam in Kurdistan 2011 and the film was screened at the Duhok International Film Festival. In 2014 he won the Samsung Short film competition at The Dubai International Film Festival. After that he won the Silver Act Responsible award in Cannes for a UN Female Rights awareness campaign in 2015.
His short documentary film project “SHE” he has won 7 awards and has had screenings over 10 festivals and counting, globally.
His films always have Humanitarian themes or are Underdog stories.
Currently he resides in Dubai and shares his experience and knowledge with new generation peers through workshop and lectures at NYU-Abu Dhabi, SAE, Studio TwoFour54, ImageNation, Panasonic Master classes.
