Ree Wright is a filmmaker from Halifax, Nova Scotia who co-founded Mirror Image Media with their twin sister. They create documentaries and branded stories across Canada. Their mission is to use film as a vehicle to create social and environmental impact, specifically empowering and uplifting marginalized voices. Ree is an award-winning filmmaker who wear many hats as a director, cinematographer, and producer.
Their documentaries include The Last Days of April (working title), a feature length film on a disabled queer woman who has been approved for Medical Assistance in Dying (with Out TV and AMI), Freedom Swell, a CBC Gem feature length documentary on the North Preston Surf Program (Screen Nova Scotia’s 2022 “Best Documentary”), which explores the historical reasons behind the lack of diversity in surfing, Living in Flow, a VICE & Telus Fund docuseries on mental health and using water as a transformational outlet (Screen Nova Scotia’s 2023 “Best Television Series Unscripted”), The Social Shift, a feature length documentary on social entrepreneurship across Canada (Screen Nova Scotia’s 2019 “Best Documentary” and FIN’s 2018 “Best Edited Documentary”), Transform, a short documentary on people living with spinal cord injuries (Mosaic Film Festival’s 2019 “Best Documentary”), and My STEM Job, an NFB series featuring 20 females in STEM across Canada as an educational tool for the next generation of young women.
