Matthew Oquendo is an award-winning Filipino-American writer and director whose work explores identity, place, and the inter-connected stories in everyday spaces.
His internationally acclaimed series, METRO, has screened at festivals across the globe, including a premiere at the American Film Institute and UCLA, where the first season debuted. The series took home the top prize at Hollywood Webfest (2019), with additional honors from Seoul WebFest (2018) and Bogotá Webfest (2019), cementing its impact on the global web series circuit.
Driven by a deep curiosity for community and cultural intersections, Oquendo grounds his storytelling in the diverse neighborhoods of Los Angeles County. Through METRO, he’s become known for weaving narratives inspired by the County's 88 cities—narratives sparked by a single bus or train stop.
In 2021, his feature screenplay BLUE HOUR advanced to the 2nd Round of the BLACK LIST Incubator. Oquendo has written over 5 features he hopes to film concurrently with his longstanding series, METRO.
