Marcelo Filho is 31 years old, is born and based in Tucano (Bahia, Brazil), and holds a degree in Film Directing from the Fundación Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires (FUC). There, he directed several fiction short films, including: "Cold Front" (2014), which participated in the Short Film Corner at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival; "Bye, Darling", available on GuideDoc.tv; and "The Years" (2016), developed during a workshop with filmmakers Juan Villegas and Rodrigo Moreno, and later selected by FUC for international distribution in 2017.
In Tucano, he has carried out several cultural initiatives beyond the scope of cinema. Notable among them are: Projeto Bora? (2013–2017), a free media initiative that brought together various artistic languages to promote local identity, and which recently received the SECULT / LPG BA Award for Contribution to Audiovisual Arts (2023); Cine-Discussão (2013), Pôr-do-cine (2014–15), and Sarau na Rua (2015–16), events organized in collaboration with the Coletivo Ação Juvenil de Tucano (COAJ); Carnaval da Melhor Idade (2018–2021), which restructured a traditional local costume ball; and Toca pro Cine (2019), a weekly film club. He is currently a member of the first formation of Tucano’s Municipal Council of Culture.
In Tucano, he has been involved in cultural initiatives beyond the scope of cinema for over a decade — most notably Projeto Bora? His work also includes theater productions, art exhibitions, traditional festivals, and film clubs. He is currently a member of the city's Municipal Council of Culture.
In the field of cinema, he is currently developing his first feature film in partnership with Muiraquitã Filmes, production company led by Eliane Ferreira. "How to Use Bhaskara's Equation" was selected for the Cine Qua Non Lab in 2020, at which time he received the Paradiso Project’s Audiovisual Talent Grant. For over three years he has also been working as a production assistant at the company, focusing on project development. In early 2023, he took part in the production of the feature film "Garden of Silences" as Executive Production Assistant, and recently directed three medium-length documentaries and one short-lenght fiction to be released soon.
