Mami Taoka was born on October 24th, 1972 in Iidabashi, Tokyo to an installation artist father and oral surgeon mother. Influenced by her parents’ love of movies, she developed an interest in movie making in middle school. Three years after graduating from Ochanomizu University Senior High School, Mami moved to the U.S. to study film production. However, she was eventually forced to return to Japan after a car accident. Then, in 2010, after completing a screen writing course at Tokyo’s Scenario Center, she made the decision to greet her 40s by returning to filmmaking. Mami has been studying under Yoshiyuki Isaka, a consultant at Iwanami Audio- Visual Media Inc. Her own maiden work,“A Sleeping Dream(2018)”, was selected as an official selection at the Atami International Film Festival 2018. (This year, there were 1508 submissions from 89 countries at Atami film festival). The film was also selected and awarded a Best Asian Film Award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival 2018. A guest judge of Temple University Japan Film Festival 2019.
1972 年 10 月 24 日、東京の飯田橋生まれ。父は空間芸術家、母は口腔外科医の家庭に育つ。映画をこよなく愛する両親の影響を受け、中学生の頃から映画制作に興味を持つ。お茶の水女子大学附属高等学校を卒業した 3 年後に映画制作を学ぶために単身渡米するものの、交通事故で敢えなく帰国。その後、2010 年のシナリオセンター・シナリオ作家養成講座修了がきっかけとなり、40 代に入ってから、映画の道を再度志す。岩波映像顧問・井坂能行氏に師事。「眠る夢(2018)」が処女作であるが、この作品は2018年度熱海国際映画祭オフィシャルセレクションに選出 (この年の熱海国際映画祭には89カ国から1508作品の応募有り)、又、トロントインターナショナルノリウッドフィルムフェスティバル2018にてベストアジアンフィルム賞受賞。2019年度テンプル大学ジャパン映画祭にてゲスト審査員を務める。
