There was a photo of yip mon on LinkedIn yesterday, I was trying to find it again, I began to remember seeing Yip Mon in that pose, with a hawk sitting in a cage with an open door hanging from one hand, and many pigeons on strings that were tied to his wrists flying in the air. I was told when I was young by Yip Mon the story is supposed to be as a martial arts lesson that the hawk sits in the open cage while the other birds fly on strings since if the hawk were on a string he could get free anyway so he wouldn't be on a string. The pigeons are happy on the strings since they like feeling the way he tugs them back with the string. The question is supposed to be why is the hawk sitting in the cage and the student is suppose to hear that he is like one of the birds and there are endless discussions about it.
He really did go around Taiwan with a hawk sitting in a birdcage with the door wide open, and other birds flying from strings that he held on both wrists. People thought he was crazy. Some people thought he was trying to fly. Some thought he was selling birds. I would walk with him alongside listening to the talk, while martial arts films were being made.
