As a queer person of color I find importance in putting a spotlight on the multitude of stories out there that are worth sharing and give perspective to those who are unaware of the experiences of sexual, ethnic and gender minorities.
LaQuan Lewis is a queer, Black writer/director based in Los Angeles. He taught himself filmmaking through books and online resources, dedicating 2017 and 2018 to mastering the craft. In 2019, he wrote and directed Only For The Night, a short about a trans man seeking authentic connection, which screened at seven U.S. festivals, including Outfest, and two in the UK, winning four awards. His second short, Where Do We Go From Here, about tensions between two queer women, has been selected by multiple festivals in the U.S., Tokyo, and Rome, earning “Best LGBT Short” in Tokyo. In 2023, LaQuan wrote and directed his proof of concept third short film, Come As You Are, a deeply personal story about a young man living with HIV navigating faith, family, and identity.
