K Viswanath Memorial Short Film Contest is a tribute to one of India's most celebrated film directors. Known for his masterful direction in a range of genres, from family dramas to social issues, Sri Kasinadhuni Viswanath garu is particularly famous for his ability to capture the essence of Indian culture and tradition in his films, often featuring richly textured characters and exploring complex emotional themes. He directed classics such as Sankarabharanam, Swathi Muthyam, Sagara Sangamam, Sirivennela, and Subhalekha. He also directed several hit films in Hindi such as Kaamchor, Sargam, Eeshwar, and Shubh Kaamna. These films have garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, including several National Film Awards. Films by K Viswanath garu are known for their exceptional musical scores and choreography, often featuring prominent playback singers and dancers. His attention to detail and commitment to the authentic representation of Indian traditions make his films a must-see for cinephiles and fans of Indian cinema alike. In 2017, he was conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the field of cinema.

The contest invites entries from all aspiring and established filmmakers including film school students who share a passion for cinema and a desire to showcase their talent on a global stage. The submissions will be judged by a panel of distinguished experts from the film industry, who will evaluate the films based on their originality, creativity, technical excellence, and emotional impact. In short, they will look to be reminded they are watching a K Viswanath film. The top three winners of the contest will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 5,00,000 each, along with the opportunity to showcase their films at various film festivals and events around the world. Besides cash prizes, 3 additional films will be chosen by the audience for Audience Choice Recognition Awards.

-Film must not be screened anywhere on any platform such as YouTube previously
-Film must not copy stories or scenes from K Viswanath films
-Film can be submitted by contestants from anywhere in the world
-Film must be original content
-Film must not violate any copyrights or trademarks
-Film must be made by individuals above the age of 18

  • No communication was sent to me from the management. Only notification received was via Film freeway about the selection. Initially I was happy about the selection but this is very disrespectful to fellow filmmakers.
