Kosice International Film Festival is 𝐈𝐌𝐃𝐛-𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 with live screenings in Košice, in Slovakia. Our mission and goal is to discover and promote talented filmmakers from all over the world and present them to the public. Therefore our festival is a brilliant opportunity to participate in international competition.

𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐉𝐔𝐑𝐘
𝐃𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 is an is an award winning Israeli writer, director, and 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. His short film “Anna” premiered in Official Short Film Competition at the 𝟕𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, 𝐰𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐈𝐅𝐀 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐁𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐀. His films were in the Official Selection of festivals such as 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨, 𝐓𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐚, 𝐀𝐅𝐈 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐊𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐰, 𝐉𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬. The two films screened in 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬.

The festival is created in cooperation with the Košice Film High School. Every year, the festival prepares several interesting educational activities for students, such as a Workshop with JUMPCAT, analysis of films from the Festival de Cannes, interviews with festival guests.

For the last two years, we have presented Slovak films to the audience, including the personal participation of guests:

𝐉𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐣 𝐋𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐤𝐲 visited us personally and we also organized an analysis of his films with Q&A. Juraj is Slovak film director who first feature-length documentary Blind Loves (2008) premiered in the 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐑é𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟖, where he won CICAE Art Cinemas Award. His films have already been presented at festivals such as 𝐙𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡, 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞, 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚, 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐰, 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬.

The guests of the last year of the festival were the director of 𝐊𝐨š𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞/𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐤𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨 𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐚 Jan Melikant and the director of the film Pura Vida, which premiered at the 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖, Martin Gonda. After five years, we can say that the festival can use the word INTERNATIONAL, because during the last year, in addition to Slovak guests and filmmakers, more than 30 foreign guests and filmmakers visited us. During the last year, we screened more than 𝟓𝟓 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟏𝟗 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 around the world and awarded more than 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎 𝐔𝐒𝐃 in financial rewards.

The festival honored many great film directors. Previous winners of our festival are directors such as Morad Mostafa ("HENET WARD", premiered: 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥), Molly Manning Walker ("GOOD THANKS, YOU?", premiered: 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 – 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬), Zachary Woods (“DAVID”, premiered: 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬), Guy Nattiv (“Skin” – 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐎𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫), Charlie Manton (“NOVEMBER 1ST”, 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐳𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐎𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫), Georgi M. Unkovski (“STICKER”, premiered: 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥), Anthony Nti (DA YIE?, premiered: 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥), Guillermo García López ("Aunque es de noche, premiered: 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐎𝐘𝐀 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬) and many others.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐌𝐔𝐙 is certainly well known to music lovers. This band under the direction of Jesse Haaj won the main prize in the category: Music Video with the song for the clip JEZEBEL. The festival has already presented projects that are also available on various well-known streaming platforms:

The festival includes discussions aimed at film school students. The guests are film school graduates who have worked in the professional film industry. The names of the deadlines have the names of important people from Košice or personalities who are closely connected with Košice. Even in this way, we honor their memory and try to make the city of Košice visible in the world.

In five years, we have looked at 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟏𝟓.𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 from more than 𝟏𝟒𝟎+ 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃. 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄: Kino Úsmev Košice - Kasárenské námestie 1, 040 01 Košice
Kino Úsmev has been standing on Kasárenské náměstí since 1922 and is one of the oldest cinemas in Košice. In 2012, the civic association CINEFIL conducted a survey of spaces in the city where the Audiovisual Culture Center and a busy city cinema could operate. In June 2015, the city council unanimously approved the lease of the Kino Úsmev to the civic association CINEFIL for a period of 15 years for a symbolic lease, with the commitment to transform the Úsmev Cinema into an audiovisual culture center within five years. Kino Úsmev has halls for 300 spectators, 20 spectators and 50 spectators. The cinema also has a bar where you can get the best Slovak beer on tap!
