My name is Kaat Vanbaelen. I am 26 years old and live in a small village in the countryside of Limburg (Wijshagen) with my mother, brother, our cats Coco and Chanel, our sheep Odette, Lisette and Janine, our donkey Emma, and our chicken Josefien.
I have always had a passion for storytelling. At the age of 8, I was determined to become a horror filmmaker. During my time at LUCA, however, I discovered a profound love for comedy— the more tragic and absurd, the better. Over the past three years, I have focused on honing my skills as a screenwriter. This journey included a semester of screenwriting courses at FAMU in Prague and an internship as a storyliner at Banijay Belgium, where I continue to write. Additionally, I am currently interning with Karel Segers as a co-scenario coach for his clients. And I am working on my debut series, based on this short film; FLEX.
My passion for storytelling stems from the fact that I was always a little different from everyone else. This has never made me insecure, quite the contrary. I have always felt the need to share my great imagination and open mindset with others and give my surroundings new insights. I prefer to do this by first disarming my audience with comedy and then touching them with drama. I want to offensively confront them with our problematic behavior, but also surprise them with truthful solutions.
Always ready for adventure, I feel most comfortable when outside of my comfort zone!
I love pizza, cowboys, and muskrats.
I believe that aliens exist, and so do witches.
My friends call me the dissolute dreamer, a source of endless imagination.
