Julian Felix Aaronson is an American filmmaker known for his deliberately disconcerting editing style, disconnected characters, and intentional cinematography. These storytelling pillars are what awarded him his 2022 YoungArts Honorable Mention in Film and what consistently places him in festivals around the world. Aaronson found his passion for directing and writing after playing George in Our Town in his school play. He began to take an interest in the process that came with creating a production.
With guidance from his theater teacher, Aaronson fell in love with writing and began writing every day until he landed on a script he felt he could make. He called one of his friends, pulled out his iPhone, and began to record. After working with only the actor, Daniel Bowers, Aaronson created 'Enslaved by the Screen'. Aaronson's first short film is meant to capture how we all felt under the stresses of quarantine. 'Enslaved by the Screen' eventually got him accepted into Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (O.S.A.I.) in 2021.
Under the O.S.A.I., Professor Alrick Brown's instruction, and Aaronson's newfound connections to other Oklahoman creatives, he and his fellow student, Paul Said, created the award-winning film 'Be F*cking Weird'. This award-winning experimental commentary on society's definitions of "weird" and "normal" showcases Aaronson's editing and directing style.
In addition, Julian Felix Aaronson has completed his new award-winning experimental commentary on mental health, 'Ça Va?', where he makes his first true experimental film that incorporates narrative structures and takes a significant step towards building his unique defiant style.
More recently, he has completed his narrative short film, 'The External-Internal Monologue of an Interdependent Insomniac', where he explores the critical topic of sexuality. And a dementia awareness short film, 'Where is Bones?'.
And now: "Cut Scenes From a Love Story", A vignette of aimless moments between two people in love in collaboration with the YoungArts finalist in film, Ella Janes. Aaronson is also the cinematographer on Janes' film coming in 2023, 'Happiness in the Palm of Her Head.'
