IFFA Awards Night
The International Film Festival of Australia (IFFA) Awards Night is an annual red-carpet event held in Melbourne that recognises excellence in Australian and international cinema. The event brings together filmmakers, creatives, industry professionals, and cultural representatives for an evening dedicated to celebrating outstanding achievements in storytelling and filmmaking.
IFFA is guided by a mission to support filmmakers, encourage cultural exchange, and provide accessible opportunities for creative voices from around the world. To remove financial barriers and encourage wider participation, submissions to the IFFA Awards are free of charge, allowing filmmakers from diverse backgrounds to share their work and gain international recognition.
The IFFA Awards Night is a one-night ceremony dedicated exclusively to recognition and honour. Unlike traditional film festivals, IFFA does not host public film screenings. Instead, the event celebrates nominees and winners across a wide range of categories, including feature films, short films, documentaries, animation, and student productions. Awards recognise excellence across creative disciplines such as directing, acting, screenwriting, cinematography, and production.
Through its open and inclusive approach, IFFA promotes artistic merit, cultural diversity, and creative innovation within the global screen industry. By offering free submission and international recognition, the festival encourages participation from emerging filmmakers, independent creators, and students, helping remove barriers that often limit access to global platforms.
IFFA also places strong emphasis on supporting young filmmakers and student creators, with dedicated award categories designed to nurture the next generation of storytellers. By creating a platform where new voices can gain visibility and recognition, IFFA contributes to the continued growth and diversity of the international film community.
With a strong international outlook, the IFFA Awards Night serves as a cultural meeting point for filmmakers and creative communities, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and artistic exchange across borders. The event celebrates not only cinematic achievement but also the role of film as a powerful medium for cultural expression and global connection.
Submission Materials
To ensure proper consideration for the IFFA Awards, filmmakers are asked to provide the following materials as part of their submission:
A downloadable link to the full film (HD quality preferred) for viewing and evaluation purposes.
A downloadable trailer link that is cleared for copyright use so IFFA can promote the film. The trailer may be featured on the IFFA website and may redirect viewers to the IFFA YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO2xJ6Cw1-5o1iolIJtO4yQ ), allowing audiences to watch the Film and trailer online.
High-quality headshots of the main cast and key crew members.
Biographies of the main cast and key crew members (up to 500 words).
Poster artwork in HD format (27” x 40”, without festival laurels).
Social media handles, particularly Instagram, for potential collaboration and promotional purposes.
These materials help IFFA review submissions and promote selected films and filmmakers through festival communications, media outreach, and digital platforms.
By providing these materials, filmmakers confirm that they hold the rights to the submitted materials and grant IFFA permission to download, share, and use them for media, marketing, and promotional purposes, including social media posts, press releases, website features, trailers, and promotional highlight reels related to the festival.
