The Future of Film Showcase is a film festival that highlights the talent of up and coming Canadian Filmmakers. The chosen films are put on the big screen at a one-night event at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto, May 2019.
What We Offer:
Filmmaker Luncheon (exclusive for filmmakers and Industry Panelists)
- Selected filmmakers who screen films at FOFS 2019 will be invited to a catered luncheon where they have the opportunity to network with other filmmakers as well as Industry Panelists attending the festival. The Luncheon will take place in the ScotiaBank Theatre Buyer's Lounge.
- Film Industry professionals come in to speak about their experiences and cover various topics pertinent to the growth of young and emerging filmmakers.
- The FOFS 2019 Official Selection is screened at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto.
- A party after the festival is hosted by FOFS where the 2019 People's Choice Award will be announced. Location TBA.
People's Choice Award for Best Film
Winner receives $2000+HST worth of services at AstroLab Studios Inc. to use however they wish. Choose from any of Astrolab's studio spaces, equipment rentals, audio recording and mixing as well as edit or colour in their post-suite. The recipient will also receive a Free 1-Year Subscription to Playback (playbackonline.ca) and a $750 credit to Good Dog Digital.
Best Film Award
Winner receives a full 12 hour day in Studio 1 at Astrolab Studios Inc., complete with grip and lighting package. The recipient will also receive a Free 1-Year Subscription to Playback (playbackonline.ca) and a $300 credit to Shuttershare.
Winner receives a Free, 1 Year Membership to The Canadian Academy of Cinema and Television (details on membership here: https://www.academy.ca/membership-benefits/) and a 300$ credit to Shuttershare. The recipient will also receive a Free 1-Year Subscription to Playback (playbackonline.ca) and a Free, 1 Year Subscription to Final Draft (approx. $250).
Winner receives a Free 1-Year Subscription to Playback (playbackonline.ca) as well as a Free, 1 Year Membership to The Canadian Academy of Cinema and Television (details on membership here: https://www.academy.ca/membership-benefits/). The recipient will also receive a Free, 1 Year Subscription to Final Draft.
Winner receives one full day (10 hour) colour correction session at Astrolab Studios Inc., with colourist provided by AstroLab Studios Inc. The Winner will also receive a Gift Certificate valued at $1000 from Ontario Camera as well as a $750 credit to Good Dog Digital.
Winner receives one full day (10 hour) session in an edit suite at Astrolab Studios Inc., with editor provided by AstroLab Studios Inc. and a 1 year subscription to Amber (online storage solution for editors).
Winner receives one full day session at Astrolab Studios Inc., including recording booth with Neumann mic, and audio station (Studio 192 interface, loaded Mac Pro, Logic, ProTools, full Adobe Suite), all provided by Astrolab Studios Inc.
Best Production Design
Winner receives a Certificate valued at $1500 for use of services at Hand Prop in Toronto.
Call for submissions: Submissions open November 1, 2018. All entries must be received by March 18, 2019.
To be eligible for submission, the short film must meet the following criteria:
•Director was 30 years of age or younger AND/OR was studying Film in a Canadian institution at the time of production.
•The production must earn a minimum of six points based on the following creative functions being performed by Canadians: Director, 2 points; Writer, 2 points; Leading performer, 1 point; Second leading performer, 1 point; Head of art department, 1 point; Director of photography, 1 point; Music composer, 1 point; Editor, 1 point.
•The production must be no longer than 25 minutes in length and the film must have been completed on or after January 1st, 2018. Any film submitted in a previous year will not be considered for this year’s festival.
•All entries must be either in English or contain English subtitles. Non-English entries submitted without subtitles or with supplementary printed translations will be automatically disqualified.
•Future of Film Showcase accepts entries via FilmFreeway.com, a user-friendly submissions platform. FilmFreeway offers HD online screeners via Vimeo and YouTube.
•Create a FilmFreeway account and upload the film you would like to submit. Go to: https://filmfreeway.com/festival/futureoffilmshowcase and click ‘Submit Now’. Complete the check out process and you’re all set. By submitting your film you agree to the terms and conditions below.
Terms and Conditions
•All genres will be considered for inclusion in the festival. Once a work has been submitted, it may not be withdrawn.
•Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival and to use all music, images and content in the entry.
•Entrant will allow usage of clips from the entry and all related publicity material submitted for promotional use in print, web and at live Festival events.
•If selected, full details of your work, including an image, short synopsis, short biography and website link will be included in our website and/or the festival program.
•Entrants shall inform the festival of any change to contact details.
•Entrant confirms that the work provided is a Canadian Production and, if requested, will provide any form of verification to demonstrate such a declaration is the truth
•Future of Film Showcase is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The Competition reserves the right to refuse entries. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Future of Film Showcase from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered. Entries will not be returned.
