CINTIMA’s annual Flicker Festival is a first-of-its-kind curated international festival celebrating intimate storytelling.

Be a part of this groundbreaking festival now in its second year.

CINTIMA invites filmmakers to submit bold, artistic, and evocative short films exploring the depth, complexity, and artistry of intimacy. We celebrate storytelling that captures human connection—whether through romance, longing, vulnerability, power, desire, trust, or the tensions that challenge and transform us—all within the highest creative and professional standards.

Films can take any form—a dramatic narrative, an animated exploration, a thought-provoking documentary, a playful comedy, or a genre-bending work of sci-fi, fantasy, horror or suspense. We encourage all formats, including novel uses of AI and digital storytelling, pushing the boundaries of how intimacy is expressed on screen. We welcome diverse perspectives and voices, LGBTQIA+ stories, cross-cultural expressions of intimacy, and innovative storytelling techniques that redefine how we see closeness on screen.

Films must be 7 minutes or less in duration. Films may be original works, or scenes from larger projects, provided they meet all other submission requirements.

If the film includes sexually explicit material, all depictions must be simulated. In addition, the entrant is encouraged to collaborate with an Intimacy Coordinator to help elevate artistry, safety, authenticity, and ethical representation. Please reach out to the festival if you need assistance connecting with a qualified Intimacy Coordinator.

Why FLICKER?

Intimacy is our birthright.

We are conceived through our most intimate acts, born through our most intimate parts, and from our first breath, our existence is shaped by intimacy—by closeness, warmth, touch, by the presence of another. Yet, we live in a world that isolates, fragments, and commodifies our existence. FLICKER is a response—a space to reclaim, explore, and celebrate the artistry of intimacy in storytelling, because the stories we tell each other shape the way we see, feel, and belong.

At a time when our industry is redefining ethical storytelling, this festival serves as a call to elevate intimate storytelling through thoughtful, nuanced, and groundbreaking films. Each short film, no longer than seven minutes, will explore the depth of human connection in all its forms—romantic, platonic, erotic and beyond. Each film will collaborate with an Intimacy Coordinator to help elevate artistry, authenticity and ethical representation.

Why 7 minutes? The brevity challenges filmmakers to tell compelling, intimate stories with efficiency and creativity. These bite-sized narratives are ideal for engaging audiences while providing a manageable format for emerging talent.

These flickers of storytelling reveal that even the shortest films can uncover the profound depths of human connection, vulnerability, and the unseen forces that bring us together.

All films must adhere to SAG-AFTRA, and broadcast compliance standards—this is about cinematic artistry, not performer exploitation. All intimacy is simulated. We seek projects that push creative boundaries while upholding ethics, safety, and the practices of intimate storytelling for Film and Television.

A jury of Filmmakers, Producers, Writers, Directors, Film Critics and Intimacy Coordinators will help select films that redefine intimacy in storytelling—films that go beyond expectation and embrace the depth, complexity, and artistry of human connection.

The jury will vote on awards, and the Films will be judged on:
Creativity and originality.
The authenticity of intimate storytelling.
The effective use of Intimacy Coordination.

The judges will choose selections for the following awards:
Grand Jury / Best in Show
Best Intimacy in Storytelling
Most Expansive View of Intimacy
Best Direction
Best Intimacy Choreography
Most Innovative Vision
Audience Choice Award
Best Standalone Scene or Excerpt from a Feature, Series, or Short
